Mix' Quartet, G. Rothmeier Wins Contest
La Porte City consolidated school entries excel at Iowa City district small groups contest winning two firsts and four seconds. The mixed quartet of Carol Froning Marilyn Snow Tom Gill and George Rothmeier earned first ratings and advance to Perry for the state small groups contest. Other entries earned seconds: Carol Froning and Carmen Abbott piano solos and Tom Gill with Ronnie Fultz tenor solo.

Jubilee School to Close and Graduates Honored
The Jubilee consolidated school will close Friday May 13 and hold graduation exercises for seven eighth grade graduates at 1:30 PM in the school auditorium. County superintendent H Hartman of Waterloo will deliver the address. The class includes Betty Lu loft Lorraine Riensche Claudia Wayson Barbara Bauer Edward Jesse Roger Koob and Jimmie Farmer. The motto is Never Fall and colors yellow and blue. Principal Mrs Marlin Powers will present the class to Supt Hartman.

Free Summer Music Lessons Arranged for La Porte Students
Arrangements completed to offer free instrumental lessons for La Porte City Consolidated School students through summer. Services Held Saturday for Daniel Stevens
Daniel George Stevens son of Daniel F Stevens of Bassett and Helen Stevens was born October 29 1924 in Waterloo. He married Patricia Eastman February 2 1943 and was drafted May 6 1943. He served in New Guinea and the Philippines with 249 Port Co 496 Port Battalion and was killed September 26 1944 when his ship struck a mine near Low Island. Buried at Los Negros. He earned Good Conduct World War II and Asiatic Pacific medals with two stars. Survivors include his father a daughter Rebecca Lou his wife now Mrs John Lavin of La Porte City his stepmother a half brother and half sister. He was preceded by his mother in January 1930.

Mr and Mrs Wienands were married May 1 1924 at the Evangelical parsonage La Porte City by Rev R B Kearney. They farmed near La Porte City Bruce township before moving to town in 1936. He works in trucking she a relief operator at the local telephone office. They are Methodist and she belongs to the Navy Mothers club. They have three sons Dale of Waverly Dean and Richard at home and one grandson David Wilen ds.

Spring Creek 4-H Girls Meet April 30
The Spring Creek Plungers met at Virginia Back's home on Saturday April 30 with seven members and one visitor present. Leader Mrs Clyde Craft demonstrated custards pies and cakes, and members practiced a skit and sang new songs for the year. Plans were made for a bake sale to be held Saturday May 21.
