The La Porte City Board of Education met in regular session on April 24 at 7 30 PM in the Superintendent s office and voted to establish substitute teacher s pay at 20 per day.
Tom Tecklenburg received the Dick Ballheim Most Valuable Athlete Award at the April 22 banquet after being selected from the senior class by the High School Athletic Staff. He has three spring and summer baseball letters, three varsity basketball letters, two football letters, and earned all conference honors in multiple sports. He served as class secretary and was Boys State Representative in his junior year.
The summer Driver Education program at La Porte City High School starts Monday June 5 for an eight week period. Students aged 15 to 21 in the La Porte City District may enroll, with parental permission and meetings with the Principal and Guidance Counselor. See school officials at 342-2697 for details.
The La Porte City Utility Co plans a CIPCO tie in to back up local power during peaking periods. Westinghouse bid $28,000 for a 36,000 lb transformer, arriving from Sharon PA. CIPCO will furnish 34,500 volts stepped down to 2400 for the plant, with a substation five miles south and a mile west. The project will be funded by revenue bonds repaid from electric fund earnings. Seventieth-year notes mark 1935 voter approval for an electric plant and management, with the plant having five engines and two enlargements since 1936.
