Hospitalized Yarrow couple suffer heart attacks at Scholtz

Mr and Mrs Ralph Yarrow are both hospitalized at Scholtz hospital in Waterloo after suffering heart attacks. The condition of the couple is not provided and no further details are given.

Local Women Attend Style Show at Elks Club

A hair style and fashion show was held Tuesday March 12 at the Waterloo Elks Club. Attendees from the Lal Porte City area included Mrs Weldon Christopher, Miss Barbara Christopher and Mrs Cecil Christopher. The event was sponsored by the Young School of Beauty.

FHA Member To Attend Convention

Three local FHA girls will attend the State Convention in Des Moines March 15 16 at the Fort Des Moines Hotel. The convention will center on Launching Good Citizenship Through Teamwork and Action for Citizenship with moral sessions and group discussions. Awards Won By Local FFA Boys

La Porte City High School FFA members and advisor Ron Borton attended the Northeast Iowa District FFA Contest at Gladbrook on March 9. Leonard Clarke won a gold award at sub district and silver at district. Steve Anton earned a bronze in the treasurer’s book contest. Delegates Ronald Brecher and Dave Anton attended with alternates Jin Hall Paul Elliott Boyd Bader and Steve Anton. Top two entries advance to the State FFA Contests in Sioux City on April 18.

American Field Service Holds Meet in La Porte City Library

Mr Asthurd Borwick president led a La Porte City American Field Service meeting at the Midh School library. He credited James Mether with initiating the foreign exchange idea about two years ago and said five committees are formed. Monday’s session outlined committee duties and two local families have applied to host the incoming student while selection will be by the American Field Service in New York.

Farmers Urged To Sign Up For 1963 Feed Grain Program

Black Hawk County ASC officials warn farmers the March 22 deadline nears to enroll in the 1963 feed grain program. Farmers may reduce acres by at least 10 percent to receive diversion, price support, and loan benefits. Signups listed at Fox Township School March 13, Big Creek Mayor's Office March 14, Spring Creek Community Building March 19, and Cecil Jones home. Prices set 18 cents for corn 16 for grain sorghum and 14 for barley per bushel with a single county base for all three crops.

Mrs Marie Krebs McKay Dies at 87 in Great Falls

Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 13 at 2 pm at Johannsen-Rossow Funeral Home for Mrs Marie Krebs McKay, 87, who died at her present home in Great Falls, Montana. Burial was in West View Cemetery. Survivors in the area include nephews Gerald Krebs of La Porte Civ and Lea Krebs of Cedar Falls, and one niece, Mrs Lester Starty of Cedar Falls.

Walter Ray Sawer of A. much Calli passed away March 1 at a California hospital at age 83. Born February 22, 1879 in Spline Creek township La Porte City he was son of Edmand and Matilda Sawyer. Survived by wife Lela son Ed mund Sawy of La Jolla and daughter Delia Katherine Threlfall of San Jose with three grandsons. Last of the Sawyer family and brother of the late Wm. Date Change For LPC Pops Concert Update

Mr Russi Maiszner of La Porte has won a scholarship to the nations first Hog College held in Nebraska March 8 and 9. Venerable Nebraska speakers Dr P R Pea and Yr VW Bo Hudiian of Van Era’s College addressed the hog college on calcium phosphorus balance for swine diets. Speakers included Dr Marcus Hoelscher and John T Hall VI on minerals and amino acids for livestock. A round table on protein diets followed with Q and A about new feeding manuals by Standard Chemical MizCo. Scholarships were awarded to sales reps who met quotas. The concert moves to March 20 at the high school with senior and orchestra bands performing. tickets available at the high school office.

Letter to the Editor on school transport for small children

Cancer Crusade Heads Named in La Porte City Meeting

Mrs. Clyde Hocken of the American Cancer Society opens her home at 203 Maple St at 10 a.m. Friday March 15 for a coffee meeting with Area Chairmen who will staff the April 22 26 crusade. Alice Tiede explains materials and shows the Titus Evans Research pamphlet stressing need for more equipment at the research center. Over 11.5 million dollars was given to ACS Research in 1962, including 2 million for leukemia research.
