La Porte City Boards Sets 1972-73 Budgets Mills Cut

La Porte City Community School Board adopts the 1972-73 general fund budget of 1 045 450 and school house budget of 27 140. General fund millage reduced by 4 8264 to 55 9055, with state aid 392 057 and miscellaneous receipts 43 647 totaling 1 045 450. The school house fund drops 25 627 to 27 140 as debt for the Senior High is paid. Combined budgets total 1 072 590.

Copy Deadline Friday Night

La Porte City business places and city offices will close next Tuesday in observance of the 4th of July. The Progress Review will move its copy and ad deadline to 5 p.m. Friday night because press day will be on Monday, July 3, instead of Tuesday, July 4th. With the post office closed Tuesday, patrons should still receive their paper starting Wednesday.

La Porte Waverly Swim Meet Set For Thursday

La Porte announces a swim meet with Waverly, Iowa scheduled for Thursday, June 29. The pool will close at 4 30 p m for the event and reopen afterward. On July 4 the pool opens at 10 p m and stays open until 7 p m. An adult swim is offered every Wednesday and Friday from 9 to 10 p m.

Highway Patrol Expands Use Of Unmarked Patrol Cars

Colonel Howard Miller of the Iowa Highway Patrol announced a plan to deploy about 70 unmarked patrol cars statewide. Each will have emergency equipment, uniformed troopers, and some with a Vacsar speed timing device. The aim is to deter serious violators and reduce traffic injuries by creating a psychological enforcement factor.

New Egg Laying Plant Planned Near La Porte City

Mr and Mrs Cecil Wills announce a new automated laying house about a mile from La Porte City. The 30 336 unit building includes a 40 by 496 foot main area, a 20 by 20 work room, a 20 by 12 cooler for eggs, and fully automated feeders waterers and egg gatherers. It has its own generating plant and a well supplying 1600 gallons daily. Chicks will come from Garth Rath jen Hy Cross Chick Company Mason City with operations hoped to start by August.

Elevator Holds 26th Annual Stockholders Meeting

A crowd of about 352 stockholders gathered in the La Porte City Co op Elevator annual meeting at the high school gym. Merlin Fehl presided as board president and Lee Kline spoke. Kline is Farm Director for WHO in Des Moines. An audit through April 30 shows 140000 more in sales and total assets of 503921.47. Stockholders earned roughly 7 percent on their investment. Prizes were awarded to several winners. Keith Anton and Bob Linde were elected to districts for three years, with Gary Wilt re-elected. other board members listed.

La Porte City woman named Skaine campaign coordinator

Frances Lundvall of rural La Porte City is named La Porte area coordinator for Jim Skaine’s congressional campaign. A substitute teacher at Iowa Braille School, she praises Skaine’s social interest and communication and notes his suitability for government. Lundvall’s husband Martin is a Waterloo Edison junior high counselor. they have five children and attend Sacred Heart Church.
