Newton and Bennett Trophy Winners at Flower Show
Mrs. Leslie Newton of rural LaPorte City won dual trophies in the Midwest Garden and Flower Show at the National Dairy Cattle Congress. She claimed the T. L. Crocker Memorial Trophy and the Margaret Conery Memorial Trophy, plus several ribbons for arrangements. Bev Bennett won multiple firsts including Federated Flower Art Trophy and notable mantel and novice entries.

Bombach Entered Art at Dairy Cattle Congress Show

Local Participants in Neighborhood Youth Corps
La Porte City lists part time workers sponsored by the Neighborhood Youth Corps Project. Kathy Luck works part time in the Mayor's Office and Kathy Roberts in the city library this summer. The NYC handles counseling orientation and payroll. Enrollees work ten hours weekly for twenty one weeks.

Elevator Employee Injured at Work
At a June 16 stockholders meeting of Co-op Elevator it was announced that John Schmitz a longtime employee was badly bruised in an on site accident. He was rushed to Scholtz Hospital where x rays showed no fractures and he was sent home to recuperate. The next day he was found to be uncomfortable but mobile on crutches and expected to stay home for several days.

Senior Douglas McIntosh was among 365 Wartburg College students named to the Dean's List for the winter and May terms. The full time student earned a 3.25 GPA or better for the term. Douglas is the son of Mr and Mrs A J McIntosh of La Porte City.

La Porte School Budget Not Raising Property Taxes
La Porte City Community School Board approved a 1971 72 General Fund budget of 979,665 and School House Fund of 47,685 totaling 1,027,350 with a public hearing set for July 8 at 8 00 PM in the high school cafeteria. The budget rises 38,944 from 1970 71 but will not raise taxes due to state aid of 45 per student under House File 121. fall enrollment is estimated at 1,034 students and state receipts of 46,529 are anticipated.
