Bids Accepted on Wooden School Buildings
City Council action at the June 13 meeting sets sealed bids through 5 p.m. July 22 for three wooden school buildings on the old Junior High property. An oral auction will follow on July 23 at 12 Noon. Two buildings go to the FFA Museum for relocation to Chestnut and First Street. One will be restored as an old fashioned school house while another is considered for restoration as a general store.

Wilson Elected To Head Legion At Regular Meeting
At the June 8 regular meeting of American Legion Past 207 La Porte City Robert E Wilson was elected Commander for the 1978 Legion year. He and his wife Arlene and daughter Mary live at 990 3rd Street. Wilson served in the Army from July 19 1944 to June 19 1946 and was a Staff Sergeant. He fought in Germany after WWII and his son Jeffrey died in Viet Nam on March 6 1970 while serving with Marine Air Force Helicopter Division. Todd served with Marine stateside. Wilson works in the service department at John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works and has been in the Legion since return from service. He belongs to Martin Lodge No 624 AF&AM Waterloo and BPO Elks Lodge No 290 Waterloo. Other officers elected include Lee Reinhardt Adjutant Father Mullen and John Miller Chaplains Historian Leo Steffen Trustees Donald Johannsen Loren Smith James Johannsen Set at Arms Robert Hicks John Hunter Finance Officer Ronald Smith Vice Commander of Membership Lloyd Cutler Vice Commander of Activities Don Anton 1st Vice Commander Daryl Brennaman Service Officer William Wagner and Vice Commander of Public Relations Robert Wagner. Installation will be by 3rd District Commander Robert Kehe on July 13 and duties begin after the Iowa Department Convention in Des Moines July 14 through 16.

The La Porte City Jaycees sponsor a junior rodeo at Jaycee Park this weekend with events for ages 7 to 17. Entry is 3 dollars per event, trophies awarded in all events, and a wild cow race listed as a special event. Entries close Wednesday at 10 p.m. and start at 1 p.m. daily.
