LPC Co-Op Meeting to Be Next Tuesday

La Porte City Cooperative Elevators set annual meeting for Tuesday evening June 19 in the grade school auditorium. Dinner at 6 30 p.m. followed by the business meeting and election of three directors. Incumbents Randall Stahnke Harting up for re election with candidates Loeb Christian Fehl Vaughn. Holdovers Wilt Brown Entz Niemeyer Kerr Snell. Interest checks on preferred stock will be distributed at the meeting. All cooperative members urged to attend.

La Porte City midgets fall 14 to 9 at home to Vinton, with wild pitching and early errors deciding the first inning. Lynn Genter started, Marvin Frericks finished, Frericks driving LO offense with a single, double and triple in three trips. Nancy Hawks and R P Wienands wed in Iowa wedding

Miss Nancy A Hawks of Council Bluffs married Richard P Wienands of La Porte City in First Lutheran Church. The ceremony featured a single ring vow, a traditional white gown, and a reception for 135 guests. The couple planned a short wedding trip after the ceremony.

Hartman Couple Married in Waterloo Ceremony

Donald Hartman and Miss Jeannine Marie Johnson, both of Waterloo, united in marriage Sunday at 2 p.m. in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Waterloo, with the Rev. Msgr. E B J O Hagan officiating. Bridesmaids were Harleda Chaney and Patricia Lofitus. groomsman Wayne Osukker and Robert Hartman attended. A reception followed at the Hartman home. about 100 guests attended. The couple will reside on Gilbertville Road, Gilbertville. The groom works for Hartman’s Super Market. the bride is a Lincoln high school graduate and member of Purple Arrow sorority.

La Porte City Legion defeats Geneseo 9 to 1 on the local diamond. Bob Bellinger tosses a near no hitter, facing 24 batters with 9 strikeouts and six walks. Cecil Frank leads the offense with a double and a single plus two walks, as six runs in the sixth inning sealed the win. Next game vs Waterloo Legion all-stars Sunday at 2 p.m. on the Waterloo field.

The La Porte City playground opens Monday June 11 under Mrs. Broots and Mrs. Neilson from the grade school faculty. Sessions run 9 to 12 with activities like arts crafts, story hours, games, sports and more. Open to kindergarten and up, all ages welcome with flexible arrival and departure.

A Black Hawk County resident over 21 years old casts a single vote in a straw ballot selecting among three proposed sites for a county city building. The form lists Lincoln Park East Junior High and West Side Site as options with a pledge to vote for only one.

Abbes Acquire La Porte City Meat Business

Mr and Mrs Marshall Abbe of Waterloo leased Bellinger's Meats in La Porte City and renamed it Marshall's Quality Meats. Bellinger will return to hay and straw baling work. Abbes plan to move soon to La Porte City and offer full meat processing, including fresh and processed products, inviting locals to visit as their headquarters. The Abbes have two children.

Faye Busching Weds Clayton Shalla in Pleasant Valley

Miss Faye L Busching daughter of Mr and Mrs Erfin Busching of Clarksville and Clayton L Shalla son of Mrs Ralph Shalla of Keokuk were married Sunday at two pm in First Evangelical and Reformed church of Pleasant Valley. Rev Reuben J Topp performed the double ring ceremony with Lavonne Klunder as organist. About 175 guests attended. Joan Schreiber Wins Scholarship for Advanced Study

Miss Joan Schreiber daughter of Mr and Mrs Lovie Scorviber of Cedar Rapids was one of 25 teachers four percent of faculty to receive scholarships for advanced study this summer She will again join Prof Ralph Oregan's preventive psychiatry program at the University of town This is her third summer with the fellowship for this research project.
