A J Eaker Passes Away in Community
A. J. Eaker, lifelong resident of the area, died Sunday morning after long illness. Born June 22, 1836 in Albany New York, he lived in Ohio Illinois Iowa Minnesota and finally settled in town on a farm before moving to the city ten years ago. Survived by wife and several children including Everett two other sons and a daughter, fifteen grandchildren mourn his loss. Funeral services were held at the family home on Commercial Street led by Rev. T J Sherman and burial followed in Vie 90.

Lions Club Meeting and Women’s League Notices
The Lions Club held its regular Tuesday luncheon in the American Legion room with good attendance. New members enjoyed two selections and Percy W. Smith spoke on local work by his company. After a brief business session the club adjourned to meet Tuesday, June. Central meeting of the Women’s Catholic League was held last Thursday at Mrs Frank Happer’s home electing officers. Funeral services were held for EJ Cilia Chapin of Waterton who died Sunday morning after a period of poor health. Known as a warden and expert on local game, he lived most of his life in the Cedar River area. His remains were taken to the cemetery after services at an undertaker chapel in Waterlouse.

Independent Fire Co. responded to two Saturday alarms. The first at 2:20 a.m. involved a kitchen fire at Quality Cafe on Main Street discovered by Gerald Veriga and family. Fire spread from woodwork near the range, causing heavy smoke and extensive damage to the building and contents. A second blaze, reported Saturday afternoon at the Umat Poultry Co. on Chestnut Street, began near the furnace and rags near the chimney, quickly gaining headway but stopped by rapid action to prevent greater damage.
