Hager Reunion Held at Hudson Home

Members of the Hager family gathered at Mr. and Mrs. John Holmes home in Hudson last Sunday for a basket dinner and quiet visiting. Attending were J. W. Hager and family, Ezra Hager and three children, Clarence Hager with Louis, Harlan Hager and two sons, Jennie Hager, L Haver of La Porte City, John Holmes and daughter Martha, Dale Holmes with two sons Cecil and Jack of Nudon, Myrta Hoger of Long Beach, Cal, and Josephine Miller of the local area as guest.

Taylor Wins Blind Bogey Tournament at La Porte City Golf Club

M. I. Taylor won the Blind Bogey Tournament at La Porte City Golf Club over a field of 20 players. The club describes repairs to the golf viowers and a fast regaining of the course. A Flag Tournament is planned for Sunday with a push to attract participants.

Des Moines convention trip by Register and Tribune salesmen

Ralph Strohecker and three other Register and Tribune salesmen from La Porte City joined six companions for a Des Moines outing on Monday June 8. The group toured the Coliseum, viewed speeches by Gardner Cowles, rode rides at Riverview Park, watched boxing and wrestling, and attended a Des Moines Sioux City game before returning to Waterloo and La Porte City around midnight.

Children Day Program at Presbyterian Church

The Children’s Day program at the Presbyterian church is set for Sunday at 11:00 AM. Esther E Kober of this place and Laurence G Schneider of Independence were married Sunday morning in the Presbyterian church Independence Iowa by Rev E F Hamlin. The couple's reception followed at the Kober home with family and friends. They will reside in Independence but spend two weeks touring Minnesota before settling in Independence Iowa.

La Porte City Sued For Wages and Damages

Gordon K. Danielson filed suit in Waterloo municipal court against La Porte City In for eight wages and damages as superintendent of the La Porte City Municipal Light Plant. He says he moved from Gowrie to take the post in October 1935 under a verbal agreement at $100 monthly from start until operation and $150 monthly thereafter. The contract ended May 15 with $225 back wages claimed and $100 damages.

Death of John Wentral in Waterloo detention hospital

John Wentral a longtime La Porte resident died Wednesday at 4 p m in the county detention hospital at Waterloo after months of illness. He and his late brother Podle lived in bachelor quarters in the town’s south part. Funeral services will be held at Barnhart & Johannsen funeral home Friday afternoon with burial in the Pearsol lot at West View cemetery.

Anniversary Dinner Marks Miller and Small Anniversary

The twenty eighth anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. K. D. Miller of Fort Dodge was observed with an eight person dinner at Mrs. Miller's mother Mrs. Emma Myers home. K D Miller and Viola E Smalley married in the Myers home on wine 10th 1908, and have celebrated each year here since. They have one daughter Miss Virginia, and Miller has been Fort Dodge public school superintendent for ten years, well regarded among state educators.

Memories Honor Cyrus Fox Lincoln County Soldier Rancher

Cyrus Fox of North Platte Nebraska, a 91 year old Lincoln County assessor and longtime rancher, was honored on Memorial Day by his former hometown. A veteran of the Seventh Cavalry, Fox served with General Custer’s era forces and helped build a fort at Julesburg. He settled near Gandy, driving his horse and car between duties, and remains active in local business, the Chamber of Commerce, and public life despite age.
