The broadcast featured Bea utiful glamour girls Snyder Vopelak Loren and Taylor, and a lively barn dance with Foster Joe Kelly and the Duke of Paducah. Notables like Uncle Ezra Minnie Pearl and Dr I Q kept the audience engaged while Tom Breneman and Mildred Casey provided duets and humor. The finale traced U S major wars then marched to Together. Harry Von Zell masterfully steered the broadcast.

Death summons J R Riggle at 79 in La Porte City

J R Riggle 79 a longtime La Porte City resident died Tuesday at 1245 p m at his son Emory Riggle s home after months of illness and a four week bed confinement He was born November 4 1869 in Shellsburg Iowa and married Ella McAlister in 1892 He leaves three sons Elmer Emory and Cecil five daughters and many grandchildren great grandchildren and other relatives The funeral will be Friday at 2 pm at the Johannsen funeral home with Rev M E Shank in charge Interment in West Wewe cemetery

Knot Hole Tickets Offered for La Porte City Boys

Randall Webb announced Knot Hole tickets for La Porte City boys ages 9 to 15 to attend Waterloo White Hawks home games. Tickets cover all home games except Sundays and holidays. If at least 20 boys join, transportation by two vans will be provided for about two home games weekly.

Fly Spraying Campaign Moves Ahead in La Porte City

Mary Nichols will lead a house to house canvass to fund aerial spraying of the residential district. City officials approved 150 gallons of 25 percent DDT for spraying while business district work began Tuesday. Volunteers and donations are being collected at Foard Garage and Evergreen Hatchery to hire the airplane at about 1.50 per home with larger gifts welcome.

La Porte City's Red Birds were idle due to rain on Saturday and will play at Clutter next Sunday. The Clutter nine have three wins to La Porte City's two, with top league standings at stake as both teams remain strong in the Corn Valley League.

City lights first turn on Main Street in La Porte

Workers in rain completed installation of new street lights along Main Street. The La Porte City Utilities crew powered the old system down and the new boulevard lights lit Main Street brighter than ever, marking a milestone since 1937.

Annual Meeting Of Local Co Op Next Wednesday

La Porte City Co Op Elevators holds its annual meeting on Wednesday June 16 at 8 PM in the local high school auditorium. Principal speaker is Town Thompson of Iowa State College extension service. The co op reports its second year of operation, new Fairbanks Morse scale project, a corn drier to be installed for fall grain drying, and supplies grain to Farmers Grain Dealers Association of Des Moines and feed via Farmers Elevator Service Company of Des Moines. Local residents plan a June 17 meeting at Abel's Cafe at 7 30 PM to form a camera club. Organizers seek high school students and all interested neighbors. Colored movies and slides will be shown as part of the gathering.
