Charles Heidke Miss Hackbarth Married Here

Charles T. Heidke of La Porte City married Miss Phyllis A. Hackbarth of Dows in a private La Porte City Methodist church ceremony. Rev. Oliver Jensen officiated at 7 pm with candlelit vows as family and friends attended. The couple and wedding party traveled to a post ceremony dinner at the Steak House in Vinton.

Services Held Friday for John Schwartz in Gilbertville

Funeral services for John Schwartz of Gilbertville formerly of La Porte City were held at 9:30 Friday at Immaculate Conception church Gilbertville with Fr J Kramer officiating. Burial was in Gilbertville Cemetery. Schwartz, born in Koeperich Reinprovinz Germany about 74 years ago, died May 27 1952 in St Francis hospital Waterloo. He came to America in 1893 with his mother, farmed north of La Porte City, retired to Gilbertville, never married, and was survived by one brother Nick Schwartz of New Orleans along with relatives attending the funeral. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, previously Sacred Heart at La Porte City. Attendants included Mrs Matt Wagner Arnold Wagner Matt Frein and families Charles City and Arnold Hilmer and family Dysart.

Voters Pick Kober In County Attorney Primary Fight

About 249 votes were cast in the county primary with Blair Wood the incumbent losing to K L Kober for the Republican county attorney nomination. Kober carried Big Creek Spring Creek and Cedar townships by slim margins and the Monday turnout averaged about 25 percent. Gerald Kahler, Iowa highway patrol trainee from Grinnell, completed four weeks at Camp Dodge and will be assigned to Cedar Rapids district with eventual patrol car. Kahler is a local graduate and World War II veteran.

Last Rites for Igeo Reynolds on Friday

George Reynolds of Vinton died at his home Monday after several years of illness. He was 76. Funeral services will be held at 2 p m Friday at the Fry Holland Funeral home in Vinton. He is survived by his wife Nora Triem of La Porte City and one son, Robert Reynolds.

Catholic Vacation School Begins Monday

Catholic Vacation School opens Monday at Sacred Heart Church from 8 to 11 am on weekdays for two weeks starting June 9. Pr John Ryan leads, assisted by three sisters from Waterloo. Students from first through eighth grade will study catechism and related instruction. Communion class may receive first communion on Sunday, June 22.

E U B Bible School Set to Open Next Monday

The Evangelical United Brethren church Bible school begins Monday June 9 and runs for two weeks with daily sessions 8:30 to 11:15 except Saturdays. The program ends with a public demonstration Sunday evening June 22 and includes films, magic lessons, and hands on activities. Rev Oliver Jensen, pastor, will also report for temporary naval duty as a chaplain, with expected return for another year. Awards will be given on merit, and nursery and age group instructors are listed.

Dean Kruse Receives Golfing Award at Coe

Velda Brust is pledged into Phi Kappa Phi at Oregon State College honors convocation for scholarship and campus activity. Ida Wade Speaks at Waterloo Flower Club Meeting

Miss Ida May Wade addressed the Flower Hobby club at the Waterloo Recreation Center on Friday morning May 23. Her talk titled Lowz's Spring Flowers showcased many blossoms including green dragon giant penstemon and purple avens. she distributed seedlings of green dragon Jack in the pulpit wild columbine and brown eyed Susans to members.

Gilbertville Edges LPC Nine to End Red Birds Unbeaten Run

Gilbertville defeated LPC Nine 9-7 on the La Porte City diamond, handing the Red Birds their first loss and giving Gilbertville its first league win in three games. Early 3-0 first inning lead, Gilbertville closed to 6-4 in the eighth, then surged ahead in the ninth on a triple, a single, two walks and three La Porte City errors to take the game. The LPC club now stands at two wins and one loss.

Ted Shaw Promoted to Staff Sergeant in Korea

Mr and Mrs Leslie Shaw learned their son Ted Shaw stationed at K-9 Airbase near Pusan Korea has been promoted to staff sergeant. A crew chief on a B 26 ground force he earned the rank after recommendations from the engineering section and his bomber squad. He has been in Korea four months and spoke to his parents by telephone from Mihe Airbase Japan Friday evening.

Thirty seven seniors receive diplomas at La Porte City high

Thirteen seniors from the eighth grade also earned diplomas as La Porte City Consolidated high school held commencement on May 22. Despite an electrical storm, the auditorium was full with families. Louis P. Ortle delivered the address. Valedictorian Loretta Jobe and salutatorian Nadine Helland led a strong scholastic showing with a class average of 2.28.

Priscilla Schrag Graduates From Millikin University

Priscilla Schrag daughter of Rev and Mrs Henry J Schrag of La Porte City graduated from Millikin University in Decatur on June 2 as part of the 49th commencement. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in biology, was a Beta Tau Alpha member, and trained as a medical technician at St. Joseph's Hospital in Bloomington. Her married name is Bonnie Lamphier Kline, wife of Bruce Kline, who with her spouse returned from a Chicago honeymoon and now resides in the Flemng apartment over the Coast to Coast store.

Two Women Die in Waterloo Driving Crash

Two women died when a Plymouth driven by Mass Anderson struck the head of a vehicle, overturned, and plunged across a fence near La Porte City last Thursday evening. Miss Wircia Anderson 64 of Bawe Give formerly of La Porte City and Mrs Edith Beatty Miller were killed. a third passenger Merle Anderson escaped with minor injuries. Miss Anderson, a longtime Eagle Grove educator and La Porte City church worker, was laid to rest after funeral services at the Johannsen Funeral Home.

Dale St. Clair On Training Cruise In Navy

Yale W. St. Clair, a seaman apprentice in the USNR from La Porte City Iowa, is on a two week Naval Reserve summer training course aboard the USS 880 on Lake Michigan. The program provides practical shipboard instruction reflecting classroom subjects studied at reserve training centers.

Tone elected to Coe College student council in Cedar Rapids

Jim Tone son of Mr and Mrs David Tone of La Porte City was named representative of independent groups on the Coe College student council in Cedar Rapids. He will serve next year as a freshman who ranked second in scholarship in his class and previously served on his high school student council.
