Community Cancer Drive Thanks and Ongoing Contributions

Cemetery volunteers keep grounds tidy despite hard winter

Odd Fellow and VFW members led pre-holiday cleanup with help from volunteers. Graves decorations left for ten years will be saved by request. otherwise they’ll be disposed of after the next mowing. Cemetery Association members listed are Henry Thede, John Comstock, Dale Yarrow, Kenneth Clark, Gaylord Smelser and Roy Fritz. Twelve border evergreens were replaced due to severe winter.

Memorial Day Thanks To Local Service Groups

The message honors Faithful Ones and gratitude to American Legion Post 207 and Auxiliary, V F W and Auxiliary, Navy Mothers, Women's Relief Corps, school band, and Scouts for preserving Memorial Day traditions. Lederman's La Porte to Open Thursday in Evansdale

Lederman's La Porte will open in the former T J s Variety Store at 306 Main Street on Thursday at 8 30 a m. Owned by Sid Lederman of Evansdale the store will offer variety merchandise plus men s women s and children s apparel infant items gym clothes and work shoes. It is managed by Tom and Diana Scoggins with remodeling complete and a grand opening planned for late June.

Jacklin Anniversary Celebration At Local Lutheran Church

Public invited to June 5 events honoring Rev. John Jacklin on 25th anniversary of ordination. Day opens 10:30 a.m. service with Rev. S. M. Becker, then a 12 noon potluck, 2 p.m. program and reception. Organizing trio include Mr. and Mrs. Grime, Jackson, and Miller. kitchen chiefs Mrs. Morrison and Mrs. Ellsworth. greeters the Oren Hoyts and Rick Caytons. registration by Mr. and Mrs. Doug Johannsen. reception hosts the Kaisers. Rev. Jacklin has led the congregation since August 1969.

Sacred Heart Church Plans Mortgage Burning

A nine member committee of Sacred Heart Parish plans a Mortgage Burning on Sunday July 10 with a potluck at noon. Members Agnes Anderson Earlene Rosauer Pauline Kessens LuVerne Christian LeRoy Oberhauser Mrs Martin Lundvall Mrs Orville Loveless Esther Brown and Clarice Keegan attended a May 23 meeting at Cizek Hall. Special guest Father Robert Cizek of St. Ludmillas Cedar Rapids will attend. ground breaking was July 23 1967 and the church hall and rectory were dedicated May 27 1968. Father William Mullan currently serves the parish.

Public Hearing On School Demolition June 20

La Porte City Council sets June 20 at City Hall 7:30 p.m. for a public hearing on demolishing the old junior high building. Bids for demolition to follow after the hearing. June 1 deadline for Museum Board to choose two buildings to keep. Remaining structures to be sold by sealed bids or auction prior to demolition. Council approves Anton addition final plat and mobile home park ordinance second reading.

Dennis Batty has joined La Porte City State Bank as Cashier and Vice President after three years with Union-Whitten State Savings Bank in Union Iowa. He holds a Bachelors in Accounting and a Masters in Business. He and his wife Mari and son Jason will move to La Porte City once housing is arranged.
