Decoration Day services honor fallen sailors in Cedar Rapids

Large crowd gathered at the auditorium for the annual Decoration Day service with speakers Rev. A Kerney Rev B W Clements and John D Moore World War veteran from Waterloo delivering remarks. A pageant by the West View Cemetery volunteers featured young ladies from local clubs, with tableaus and a scene at a French cemetery closing the program. Locals placed flowers at graves across the city as rain eased and crowds moved to ceremonies and surrounding neighborhoods for the day.

Ogden Fosse led the class yell after diplomas were presented by officials. Friday morning the high school announced honors and reported top averages and credits.

The board of education works on selecting teachers for the new term. F J Moore is expected to arrive to assist. Several teachers have accepted but yet to sign contracts, seeking higher salaries.
