Iowa Canning Company announces La Porte City plant will reopen for sweet corn canning after upgrades and new acreage contracts. About 2000 acres of corn to be contracted within twenty two miles. A H Brewer of Vinton named manager and will relocate with his family. The venture aims to provide local employment for men and women and support community businesses.

Baby Buried Here Funeral for Infant Daughter of Phelps
Mr and Mrs Charles Phelps brought their infant daughter Colleen to La Torre City for a funeral and burial held at 230 in the Presbyterian church conducted by Rev Harry Moore. Missy Lillian Garra iprant played, with Mrs Lehman and Mrs Burr singing three numbers as Miss Phelps rests in West View cemetery. Death of Bert Wilder in Iowa after car crash
Word arrived of the accidental death of Bert Wilder, formerly of the area, after a vehicle collision near Oelwein. Wilder, long a telephone manager here and later a radio shop operator at Strawberry Point, died from skull fractures and other injuries en route to a hospital. Paul G. Kline died at Presbyterian hospital after a shooting at a Waterloo pool hall following an altercation with Marshal Henry Kruse. He was struck at close range, suffered a splenic injury, and died about eight o'clock. Funeral services were held at his home parish with Rev. Geo. D. Gaide officiating. burial at West View cemetery. Kline, born July 9 1899 in La Porte city, served in World War I with Pershing’s forces, farmed, and later resided in the area. He left a wife, his mother Mrs. Emeline Kline, three brothers, two sisters, and other relatives.
