Joe and Arlie McBride Observe 55th Anniversary
Mr and Mrs Joe McBride of this city mark their 55th wedding anniversary with a Sunday family dinner attended by children and grandchildren from La Porte City Waterloo Kendallville and Columbus City The couple born 1894 and 1895 remain in good health with Mr McBride a former farmer bakery owner and winter trapper and Mrs McBride active at home The pair wed in 1894 with Rev J Hummel performing the ceremony and fend invitations noted by local residents in this narrative obituary style record.

Fehl-Brown Nuptial at First Methodist La Porte City

Darwin Cooper Elected New Director at Farmers Mutual

Tentative Plans Made for Jiggs Day Celebration
The local American Legion post invites all members to a Friday meeting at 7 p.m to finish plans for a summer carnival. A one day fair is planned this year under the title Jiggs Day with free corned beef and cabbage and usual shows rides and acts. The carnival is expected in September, with details to be finalized at the meeting led by Don Richards.

La Porte City WRC Holds Annual Silver Tea and Local Meetings
The La Porte City W R C held its annual silver tea Saturday at 3 PM in the Knights of Pythias hall with a large attendance despite icy streets. A program by Eva Boyles featured vocal and instrumental pieces, followed by a served tea. Meanwhile Early Kentucky days inspired Evangelical United Brethren Missionary events, with displays of hooked rugs and quilts and a Lincoln pennies collection for missions. Pink and Blue Shower honored Mrs. Allen Bell with desserts and games, and the Hoo's Hi club met with bridge and prizes, closing with a gift presentation.

Miss Catherine Damisch fiance of Donald Willwerth was honored at a miscellaneous shower Sunday February 13 at the Edwin Willwerth home with Mrs Arnold Driscol Margie and Marlys Willwerth as hostesses. The room bore blue yellow and white streamers and two white bells as decorations. Contests awarded forfeited prizes and Miss Damisch opened gifts for a home. A lunch followed. Attending were Mrs Chas Chalupsky Mrs Wm Kray Mrs Wallace Kaufman Mrs Elmer Underwood Mrs Fred Kaufman Mrs Ed Benda Mrs Edwin Willworth Mrs John Kahler Mrs Ralph Peters and Mrs Paul Chalupsky. The E. O. F. Club met at Abel's cafe Friday for a 2 o'clock dessert luncheon with spring flowers on the table. Frank Hawkins Celebrates 90th Birthday at Home
Frank Hawkins, among the city’s oldest residents, observed his 90th birthday on Tuesday Feb 22 at his son Roy Hawkins’s home. A small gathering of close friends joined him for cake and cards, with out of town guests Carl Miller of Waterloo. Born in Ohio, he moved to Iowa as a child and has lived mostly near Dysart and La Porte City. He remains in good health for his age, though hearing is impaired and walks are limited by winter conditions. He was lifelong farmer and longtime United Brethren Church member. Roy Hawkins is his only child.

Services Held Here Friday for H. Knight
Funeral services for Harry Knight, who died February 14 at Veterans Administration Hospital in Chicago, were conducted Friday at 2 p.m. by Henry Warkentin, pastor of the Presbyterian church. Knight, longtime member of the Episcopal church, received a Masonic committal at the grave and American Legion rites with flag presentation, salute, and taps. Legionnaires served as guard of honor. casket attendants were Ralph Foss, Frank Miller, Joe Wopelak, Charles Loveless, Walter Berryhill Sr., and John Hunter. Burial was in West View Cemetery. All local businesses closed in tribute.

Ned Bader son of Mr and Mrs Alvin Bader of Spring Creek township married Dalores Olson daughter of Mr and Mrs Dale Olson of Waterloo at 2 pm Sunday at Trinity Lutheran Church Waterloo. Rev G E Melchert performed the ceremony before 150 guests with yellow tongue and twin seven branched candelabra decor. The bride wore blue moire taffeta and a blue lace handkerchief with a matching half hat. Attending was Beverly Meyer in yellow taffeta. Best man was Dale Sheffler and ushers Harold Bader and Edward Bunz. Bride’s mother wore black crepe accessories. groom’s mother wore a Skipper blue suit. Reception followed in the church parlor. They plan to farm northeast of town and reside there by March. Guests came from Canada Colorado Springs Waterloo La Porte City Dysart Vinton Traer Nashua and Ames.

Shirley McKenna Suffers Burns and Electrical Shock
Little Shirley Ann McKenna, the one year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Robert McKenna, suffered an electrical shock and burns last Friday afternoon. While her mother sewed on an electric machine, the child pulled the cord from its pulley and put the end in her mouth, causing a shock that left her unconscious for twenty minutes and burned her mouth and lips. A physician gave first aid, and she is improving at home.
