World Day of Prayer planned in La Porte City

World Day of Prayer services under the Council of Church Women will be held Friday February 29 throughout the United States and in many other countries. In La Porte City the event is at 2 PM in the Evangelical United Church. Leaders include Frank Nabholz and Robert Estep with Mrs Jenee Bolte guiding the meeting. Participants include Mrs Hubert Weierl, Mrs Henry Lamb, Mrs Francis Christian, Mrs Paul Davison and Verne Oren Jr. Music and unified singing are planned. The meeting theme is Christ Our Hope.

W. C. F. and Company Bus Times Change March First

Bus service between Waterloo and Cedar Rapids via La Porte City will adopt a new schedule starting March 1. The Cedar Rapids morning trip shifts to 2:53 p.m. The Waterloo morning run remains 1 a.m. while the afternoon Waterloo trip moves to 4:45 p.m. The La Porte City to Cedar Rapids 4:30 p.m. trip on Mondays to Thursdays and the 11:40 p.m. Friday to Sunday run will be discontinued.

Shadman Becker Wed In Double Vow Ceremony

Miss Shadman and Richard Becker married in a double ceremony at the Heart Catholic Church. The couple, joined by about 100 guests, were attended by relatives including Edward Gul Waterloo and Winona Shadmian. La Porte City High School closed its season with a 56 to 53 victory over Traer Redhawks on Traer’s floor. Oren Beckmeier Halupnik Voelverg Slavely Hovg Young and Teeter led the balanced scoring as La Porte City edged Traer in a tight game that decided on free throws. Voetberg led Traer with 20 points while the Rams hit 12 of 15 free throws to Traer’s 9 of 31. The Rams won the preliminary 34-29 behind Timeon and Rookmeier with 12 each.

Ray Saunders 40th Anniversary Celebration Held

Ray Saunders and his wife observed their 40th wedding anniversary with an open house at the couple’s home in La Porte City. About 150 guests, including family from Des Moines Jesup and Weisman, attended a noon dinner and 2 to 5 pm reception. Relatives served, guests registered, and well wishers from Emmetsburg Fayette Cedar Falls and beyond traveled to honor the couple and their long marriage.

Local Churches Plan Union Lenten Services This Year

Lenten services unite Protestant churches in La Forteiren with weekly sermons at the Evangelical United Brethren and other churches. Ash Wednesday March 9 and Holy Week services run through April 6 with 7:30 pm starts. Mrs Taylor of Mt Auburn Dies After Illness

Mt Auburn loss reported with the death of Mrs Alma Hains Taylor born Sept 13 1891 in Brandon later living in Mt Auburn. She married T Taylor Jan 9 1908 and had a farming period in Vinton La Perie areas. Survived by husband two sons and grandchildren. Funeral service held Tuesday afternoon.

Services Held for Rey Main in La Porte City

The body of Rey Lee Main FC-2 arrived from San Diego with his brother Clyrle for an American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars escort. A full military funeral was held at the Methodist church with county and local guards, and the Mt Al hurt cemetery burial rites observed. The procession included several uncles and family members with taps and a final salute.
