Brandon Couple to Mark 50th Wedding Anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. George Lehman of Brandon celebrate fifty years of marriage on Monday February 21 They wed in Carthage Missouri and lived there five years before moving to Buchanan County The couple has eight children four survive Orville and Russell of Brandon Anna Cockerham of Zearing Iowa and Mrs Guy Rusler of Rowley They have fifteen grandchildren With Mr Lehman in poor health they will skip an open house He is 82 and she is 68.

La Porte City High School students performing speech work attended Reinbeck for a pre sectional contest. Miss Carol Froning placed second in original oratory with Our Heritage A Key to Attaining Peace. Robert Smalley ranked third in extemporaneous speaking and the one act play High Windows also placed third. Cast included Marlys Buble Mac Hitt Lloyd Hager Roger Donnelly Marilyn Olson.

Dayton Couple Weds Then Returns Home After Honeymoon

Mrs. Wallace Franklin, Cincinnati, and groom son of Hal F. Goodin, Dayton, wed after weeklong town honeymoon. He, a Sears store manager in Dayton, served four years in the infantry during the war. Mrs. Goodwin, Lebanon native and Navy nurse, was a surgical nurse at Valley Hospital, Dayton. They will reside at 26242 Park Drive, Dayton.

Harry Knight Dies in Chicago at 73 After Illness

Harry Knight longtime La Porte City resident and former mail carrier died Monday night at the Veterans Administration hospital in Chicago at age 73 from uremic poisoning and heart disease. He had spent winter in Texas and returned to La Porte City for burial at West View Cemetery with services at Johannsen funeral home and the Presbyterian church. He served in the Spanish American War and World War I, was a 45 year member of several lodges, and leaves a wife, three daughters, five grandchildren, and one brother.

Mrs Helena Johannsen has been staying at her daughter Mrs H A Peters home after she slipped and fell in her bedroom last Tuesday. She carried her left arm in a sling due to a sprain and bruising, and doctors advised rest.

Alma Yarrow daughter of Mrs Nettie Yarrow wed Merlin Benson son of Mr and Mrs Judd Benson of Harmony Maine in a 2:30 PM Saturday ceremony at Waterloo First Congregational Church. The couple exchanged vows before 175 guests with Roy Yarnow and Lida Weller as attendants. The gown featured white satin with illusion net and pearl accents. bridesmaids wore turquoise and rose faille. McQuilkin Returns From Insurance Meeting Sunday

J G McQuilkin of Waterloo and formerly of here returned Sunday after attending an All America Trade Congress in Biloxi Mississippi. Delegates totaled fourteen states with Missouri 28 Illinois 16 and the host town supplying 33. Allan B Kline American Farm Bureau President flew from Washington DC to address on insurance importance and farm economy. On the way home McQuilkin visited Tampa New Orleans and Memphis. The event was at Denver. The couple will reside at 402 Third Street Waterloo, where both work at Whithead Nash Auto Club. Mrs Benson is a local graduate. Mr Benson served in Germany two years with the army of occupation.

Services Held Monday for James Bedard

James T Bedard buried in Eagle Center cemetery after Monday funeral at Mount Carmel church. Born October 10 1917 in Eagle Township he married Frances Deviney in 1943 and farmed near Eagle Center. He died Friday in Rochester Minnesota after a long illness. He leaves a widow parents three brothers a sister and four children Joan Roger Margaret Louise and others surviving. Burial followed casketbearers and honorary pallbearers from Waterloo and surrounding communities.

Prayer Services Held for Lange Infant

Monday services were held at the Lange home for infant Stephen Clifford Lange who was stillborn at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo. Rev FH Hahn of the American Lutheran church conducted the rites. Survived by parents Wayne and Lost Nath Lange, his maternal and paternal relatives include Nath of Tocterville and Arthur Lange of La Porte along with uncles and aunts.

Girl Scout Leaders Meet With Cedar Rapids Trainer

Mrs Edwin Zeller of Cedar Rapids met with nine local Girl Scout leaders for a one and a half hour session. Leaders must complete 12 to 14 hours of instruction to qualify. Last night’s meeting focused on questions and year’s problems. A training session is planned for May. Zeller is the regional trainer of Girl Scout leaders.
