Community celebration in La Porte City from September 4 to 6 aims to raise funds for local projects. A meeting on February 22 at 7 09 PM behind the N F O office will select booth types locations and advertising items. Two representatives per organization are asked to attend.
Mayor Sonia Johannsen reports 1970 violations in mayor's court totaling 287 cases. Motives include speeding 132 and other city and state code charges with 3510.00 in city and state collections and 798.00 in fees. Alcohol charges affected 37 cases with fines suspended for class attendance.
The La Porte City Adult Farmer classes resume Monday February 15 in the Yo-Ag Classroom at 8 pm. Floyd Peters of Vinton will speak on Pollution and its Effects on the Farmer, including the Town Feedlot Law and new chemical use laws. No cards sent. coffee and cookies served. bring a neighbor.
The 1970 census shows Black Hawk County with a population of 132,916, up 8.5 percent from 1960. Statewide population reached 2,825,041, up 2.4 percent. The board of directors of La Porte City Consolidated Schools will hold their regular meeting Monday February 15 at 7 30 p.m. in the superintendent's office.
The Cub Scouts Blue and Gold Banquet will be held at the American Lutheran Church in La Porte on Tuesday February 16. The Cub Scouts ledding party was postponed due to very cold weather.
The La Porte City Jaycees and the Lions Club will join to canvass the town on Wednesday evening February 17 for the Heart Fund. The campaign supports the Iowa Heart Association's crucial programs in Research Professional Education and Public Education.
La Porte City residents are urged to give what they can when a volunteer calls at their home on February 17. The campaign seeks support for local programs and community services through door to door solicitation.
Lt. Ken Finch of the Waterloo Police Department will discuss frauds and avoidance tips at a 7 p.m. program in the La Porte City High School library on Wednesday February 10. Retired citizens are urged to attend as Leif Schreiner of Hawkeye Institute of Technology coordinates the event for La Porte City Community School District and Hawkeye Tech.
La Forte City Consolidated Schools announce make-up days for the January snow closure. Classes shift to April 9 and April 12 and May 27, with early dismissal on April 9 for Easter. Elementary ends at 2 00, junior high at 2 10, and senior high at 2 20.
All Cub Scouts and parents invited to a pot luck banquet at Fellowship Hall to honor the Cubs. Each den supplies one food type. Pack Committee hopes for full parental attendance with special entertainment for a fun evening. Please confirm attendance with the den mother as soon as possible.
