Funeral services were held at the local Methodist church for Kenneth Duane Miller 1875 196? a longtime educator and former La Porte City school superintendent who died at Colonial hospital Rochester Minnesota He shaped curricula while leading schools in Monticello Win ton Ft Dodge and other communities His survivors include his widow a daughter in Chicago two brothers and a sister Miller was active in the Methodist church Masons Kiwanis and state and national educators groups Interment was in West View cemetery.

Mary Schmitz Reuter born near Gilbertville in 1872 died recently. She married Joseph Reuter in 1890. Survived by husband three sons in Mason City Waterloo and Ome and seven brothers and three sisters. Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Gilbertville celebrated by Fr. Cremer with assistants, burial at St. Mary’s cemetery.

Local Girls On Fall Quarter Honor Roll at Cedar Falls

Cedar Falls honors Shirley K. Ashley and Eugenia M. Vanderheyden of La Porte City for fall quarter at Town State Teachers College. Dr. M. J. Nelson, dean, announced 185 students qualified, including 61 men and 94 women, for the first twelve weeks. Eligibility requires 14 hours and a 3.48 GPA. Other notes mention birthdays and local obituaries fragments.

Arlene Bushnell Weds William Thompson at Beaman Home

Arlene Roberta Bushnell daughter of Mr and Mrs Harold Bushnell and William D Thompson of Vinton were married Saturday Jan 31 at the bride's parents home in Beaman. Rev M L Sunderlin conducted the double ring ceremony at 2 pm in the presence of about 25 relatives and friends. The bride wore a winter white wool Jersey dress with a red rose corsage and carried an heirloom handkerchief. Bridesmaid Lyla Geiger wore blue silk crepe and red roses. Lawrence Willson of Mt Auburn attended as groom's attendant. Music included songs Because and My Love sung by Mrs M L Sunderlin who also played the wedding march. The room featured blue and white decorations. A reception followed with a blue and white wedding cake. The couple reside in Mt Auburn. the groom works at Thompson Feed Store in Vinton. Guests came from Vinton, Shellsburg, Beaman, Curlew and Mt Auburn.

Harton Roof Fire Causes Slight Damage in January

Firemen were called to the Robert Harton home on Locust Street Friday night at 10 36 for the third roof fire in the city in January. Miss Carmen Abbott found the blaze. Sparks from the chimney ignited shingles. Damage confined to the roof, estimated at 25 dollars. The house is owned by J L McGill and W F Christopher, realtors.

Wilwerth guests attend Iowa wedding near Lamont

Mr and Mrs Edwin Wilwerth traveled to Lamont on Tuesday February 3 for the wedding of Rita Grondmeyer to Larry Thole. The service drew relatives from Des Moines Cedar Falls Cedar Rapids and many other Iowa towns plus Chicago and Owatonna. All nieces and nephews in Iowa attended the ceremony.

Stahl Rites Held Here Last Monday

Funeral services for Mrs. Susie Stahl of this city were held Monday at 2 o'clock at Johannsen funeral home conducted by H. Sandrock of the American Lutherapy church. Burial was in West View cemetery. She was born Susie Marnosz in 1881 in Germany and died after pneumonia while visiting Waterloo on Jan. 8 at age 66. Survived by two sons Henry and Melvin Teachout and daughter Mrs Willis Boleyn. nine grandchildren. Relatives from out of town attended.

Harting Receives Navy Discharge in California

Lee Roy Harting, Storekeeper Disbursing Third, son of Mr and Mrs Arthur J Harting, was honorably discharged January 20. He last served at the General Line School in Monterey California and received his discharge at Alameda. Bonnie Strong of Valencia a weekend guest of Margery and Marlys Willwerth is mentioned.

Primmer-Eckhart Nuptials Read Sunday in Vinton

George LeRoy Eckhart youngest son of Mrs Delia Eckhart and Miss Nelda Ruth Primmer daughter of Mr and Mrs G E Primmer were wed in the Christian church at Winton Sunday afternoon in a double tying ceremony officiated by Rev Lloyd Patton. Esther Ann Soderbloom played the wedding march. The bride wore white satin with a finger tip veil and carried a red rose on a white Bible. Attendants were Patricia Primmer maid of honor and Robert Hanneman best man. A reception for 65 followed in church parlors. The couple will reside in Vinton where the bride works as a telephone operator and the groom with Wilson and Company in Cedar Rapids.

Funeral services for Mrs Joe Weber 70 who died Tuesday after a 10 day illness of a heart attack will be held Friday at 10 am in Immaculate Conception church Gilbertville. Rams Victors In Two Games In Home Gym

La Porte City's Rams continued winning at home with a 58 to 46 win over IBP cagers on Tuesday. Don Angel led with 20 points, Dick Brust added 18, while Vinton defeated 46 to 41 Saturday as Brust scored 15 and Angel and Teeter 12 each. Newcomers Mr and Mrs George Johnson moved to the city, with Mr Johnson opening a shoe repair shop in the hotel building.

Pasadena Playhouse features former La Porte girl Betty Olinger

Betty Jane Olinger formerly of La Porte City has won the sole child part in Apple of the Eye at the Pasadena Playhouse. At 11 she already sang on KFWB and appeared on WMT radio. She studied under Dorothy Novis and is praised for her personality and talent by movie folks who compare her to Jane Wyman.

Good Fellows Club Reaches $60 Collections

The Good Fellows Club, created by the local L O F lodge last month, reports January collections of $80 though jars were out for less than a month. A special collection aided the roof repair at Frank Avery home after a recent fire. The club plans a year round fund to help the needy.
