About 35 percent of La Porte City residents replied to a Jaycee survey two weeks old. The 20 questions cover parking, street extensions, bridges, a school bond, trees on Main Street, a pool area, council minutes, landfill hours, development corp interest, drug issues, utility rates, civic group support, girls athletics, local purchasing, storefront needs, employment in city, stop signs, and recreation facility improvements.

School Lunch Menu From February 4 to February 10

Hawkeye offers two adult driver training courses
Hawkeye Institute of Technology announces two evening adult driver training classes at West High School. Courses run 7 to 9 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays starting this week. Handicapped enrollment is accepted. a car with hand controls is available. Tuition is 30 dollars.

Parents' Advisory Councils Hold Meeting
The La Porte City High School Parents' Advisory Council met at 7 30 P M on Monday January 25 1971 in the High School Lunch Room with eleven parents four teachers and Mr Last Principal present. The program featured Miss Stephenson outlining English teaching areas senior speech and upcoming one act plays for February 19. Mrs Engelkes discussed standard and slang English and creative writing with novels such as The Adventures of Huck Finn and Macbeth used for study. Art teacher Mr Kinne described Art I II III with field trips to the Spring Art Show Hawkeye Tech and local artists. Guidance head Mr Leidal demonstrated resources and a film on guidance plus a joint January 28 junior high meeting. A later session showed LSD and narcotics material for parents and teachers with sheriff’s office resources.

FFA Members Compete in Iowa State Angus Judging Contest
La Porte City Chapter FFA sent eight members to the Iowa State Angus judging contest in Des Moines on Saturday January 30. The La Porte City team of Alvin Bauer Doug Fisher Gary Lentzkow and Lonnie Phillips finished 12th in the FFA division among 39 teams and 157 individuals. Individual top scores for the team were 179 178 and 177 out of 200. Other attendees included Bill Mitchell Mike Westendorf Steve Maley and Bill Burkett, led by advisor Ron Borton.

La Porte City junior high students in grades through 9 will take the Seashore Test of Musical Talent this week. The one hour test assesses perception of time pitch tone color timbre rhythm loudness and tonal memory and will not affect grades but will identify students showing musical potential.
