Governor at Scout Fete in Winnebago Council Dinner

The Honorable Robert D. Ray governor of Town will speak at the first annual Winnebago Scout Council Recognitions Dinner. The merged Wapsipinicon and Winnebago Councils will host the event at Rivienia Ballroom in Janesville on Saturday February 26 at 5 p.m. More than 600 scouters from five districts in a 17 county area are expected, representing about 14,000 Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts and Explorers. The merger occurred November 1 1971. The governor and his wife Billie will arrive at Waterloo Municipal Airport around 4 30 p.m. and proceed to Janesville.

Lutheran Men to Have Soup Supper in La Porte City

Local Representatives Attend Grain Dealers Meeting

Local cooperative elevator members joined 2,000 FGDA delegates at the Farmers Grain Dealers Association of Iowa annual meeting January 24 25. Attendees from the area included Mr and Mrs Ned Bader Mr and Mrs Harold Elliott Mr and Mrs Merlin Fehl and Mr and Mrs A S Moore. The group heard FGDA General Manager Charles W Hanson report a record 144 million bushels of corn and soybeans marketed for area elevators last year generating over 1.6 million dollars in net earnings. FGDA, founded in 1904, operates grain terminals in Town Indiana and New Orleans, plus a Mason City soybean processing plant.

Rev Ruppert to Attend Seminar in Kansas City

Rev Ruppert, minister at the local United Methodist Church, has been approved for a seminary seminar at St Pauls School of Theology in Kansas City from February through 25. He is among five Iowa ministers chosen for this year long educational experience. During his absence pastoral care may be sought by calling the parsonage or church office. Sunday sermons will be delivered by Rev Dr John DeLong, James Kullmer, Andrew Kober, and Rev John Thomas.

Josephson Speaks at Eagle Dinner

Duane Josephson, first string catcher for the Boston Red Sox and New Hampton resident, will speak at the Winnebago Council Eagle Recognition Dinner at Rogers Restaurant in New Hampton on Sunday February 6 at 5 30 p m. The event honors about ninety Scouts who advanced to Eagle Scout in 1971, with parents, former Eagles, and leaders in attendance.
