LeRoy Palmer of Dysart township died at home of his son Clifford last Wednesday at age 74. Funeral services were held Saturday at 1 30 at the Sedel funeral home and at the Dysart Methodist church with E B Basye, pastor, officiating. Burial was in the Dysart Cemetery. Survived by six sons and three daughters, with thirty grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Palmer was a longtime farmer, member of the Methodist church, the Ma and Eastern Star lodges, and the Farm Bureau. He was born near La Porte, Iowa, on November 23, 1874, married Elizabeth Huppert in 1894, and lived and farmed around Dysart, Gowrie, and La Porte City.
King Creek Beavers 4 H boys met with new leader Niemeyer Monday night at the county building for next year’s work. Officers elected include Cleo rs as president Arnold Hart Tee as vice president Duane Craft as treasurer Lee Fehl as secretary and Donald J as reporter. Projects for the coming year discussed and boys raising baby beeves were reminded to have their calves tagged and tattooed at the Lake Auction barn in December.
Members of the Rebekah and Odd Fellows groups and their families attended a Christmas party in New York. A pot luck supper followed by a program of carols and songs entertained about 125 guests. Santa handed out gifts as part of the event ending with the playing of cards. Frances Nies left Thursday.
Norma Poyner and Alfred J. Pierce married in a candlelit ceremony at American Lutheran Church on Sunday afternoon. Rev. H H Hahn officiated with organ music by Mrs. Burr. The bride wore white satin with a fingertip veil and carried red and white roses. Attendants wore blue. a flower girl in pink scattered rose petals.
Funeral rites for John Dudgeon who died at his home last Wednesday were held Saturday at 2 pm at the Johannsen funeral home with Rev. M. E. Shank officiating. Burial followed in West View cemetery. Casket bearers included John Hunter and Bert Bagenstos among others. out of town relatives attended from Cedar Rapids and Waterloo.
Miss Patrician Maxine Rothmeier and Delmer V Y Hospodarsky of this vicinity wed at the local Methodist church on December 16 in a double ring ceremony. The event featured organ preludes, floral decor, and a four tier cake with blue forget me nots. After a Detroit wedding trip the couple will reside at 1016 3rd St. in an apartment. The bride is the daughter of Harold Poyner. the groom, son of the Alfred B. Pierces. The wedding party wore red carnation boutonnieres. Reception followed in church parlors with blue silver color scheme and a four tier cake centerpiece. The bride was given in marriage by her father. The couple to home December 20 after their trip.
Improvements carried on at It Methodist Church change the exterior with brick red paint and new windows and coresites. A $5,000 goal was set for interior work including heating pants, redecorating rooms, carpet, kneeling pads, and other necessities with funds already on hand and more contributions expected.
Brandon C. L Benson of Casper a former resident of La Porte City and brother of Mrs. Oscar Van Fleet died at his Casper home from heart disease at about 60 years old. Born in La Porte City in 1893 he was a World War I veteran. Surviving are wife and children Grant, Katharine, Anna, and several relatives including Oscar Van Fleet, Mrs. Jesse Theresheim, and Mrs. Harry Lorentsen. Services were held at the Bustard funeral home with burial in Casper.
Mrs. Lee of Black Hawk County urged all residents to respond to the Christ Seal letter as the tuberculosis association Works to reach its $13 100 quota. The campaign continues despite last minute preparations and busy schedules, with many neighboring towns and relatives expected to attend and support the drive.
Crawford and Shaner announce their wedding to Miss Claudia M Tory of Waterloo to be held December 19 at Litels Brown church near Nashua at 2 30 pm Rev F L Hanscom officiating in the presence of about 30 relatives and friends. The bride and groom wore yellow and bronze floral boutonnieres and the couple plan to farm near Waterloo after March 7. The groom, a Navy veteran, is employed at Rath Packing. the bride is a graduate of Quasquelon high school and worked for John Deere in Waterloo.
Christmas Eve program at the Methodist Church features an invocation, scripture reading, congregational singing, and a junior choir with boys and girls performing music. The service includes Oh Holy Night, Oh Little Town of Bethlehem, We Three Kings, While Shepherds Watched, Away in a Manger, and Joy to the World, with offertory and benediction.
