Word reached here of the death of former Lloyd T. Plummer age 59 at University hospital Iowa City on November 16 after a lingering illness. Funeral services were held November 21 at Jennings Funeral Home Panora conducted by Rev. Vern Weigel, with burial in West cemetery. Born January 16 1890 in Seely township Guthrie County he moved with family to Panora 1902, later to Minnesota and La Porte City before settling Mid 1930s in Panora. He leaves wife two daughters three sons seven grandchildren and one sister.

Chatsworth men return from 1700 mile hunt with no deer
Jack Jones and Clarence De Jager of Chatsworth traveled 1700 miles to Canada for a hunting trip but saw no deer. The morning after returning to Iowa, De Jager spotted a large buck in his own backyard.

Services Held Tuesday Morning For Mrs Conry
Funeral services were held Tuesday at St Edward's Catholic church in Waterloo for Mrs Katherine Essie Conry of Waterloo formerly of this vicinity. Burial was in the Blessing family plot. Casket attendants were four sons and two sons in law. Mrs Conry died Saturday afternoon at St Francis hospital in Waterloo from heart disease and complications. She was born Katherine Agnes Smith Feb 28 1877 south of La Porte City and moved to a farm west of the city before marriage to Dan Conry on Feb 14 1900. Surviving are five sons and two daughters, Harald Amer Lauren Dr Erwin Dr Robert Mrs Harold Witty and Mrs Al St John, plus 20 grandchildren and a sister, Mrs Glenn

A early Wednesday fire at the Les Craft farm two miles northeast of town leveled the house and destroyed most contents. The Craft family escaped in night clothing with help from neighbors and La Porte City firemen could not stop the blaze. The loss included clothing, bedding, furniture, heirlooms, a gold watch, seed corn, potatoes, canned goods, and personal belongings, with about a quarter insured. The family stayed with relatives in town while seeking plans for the future.

Iowa Fire Schools Train 2,500 Firemen Across Counties
Under a three man staff from Iowa State College Engineering Extension Service Iowa fire schools have served 145 county meetings since January 1 1949 and trained about 2 500 firemen from paid and volunteer departments. The 14 day state school at the college drew 550 more attendees in May with demonstrations and lectures. Cooperating were Robert Burns Mark Brosier and William Myers of the Extension Service. Also notes 1828 trees felled by the Red River formed a raft near Shreveport Louisiana.

Rev Oliver Jensen local Methodist minister served as a Navy reserve chaplain aboard the carrier Mindoro CVE 120 during a northern Atlantic cruise from Oct 29 to Nov 23.
