La Porte City Stores Promote Wide Holiday Selection

Bargain hunters and quality minded shoppers are urged to visit La Porte City stores. Thousands of Christmas gifts fill all departments from cars and appliances to toys and dresses. Starting Friday December 15 the stores stay open until 9 PM through December 23 to allow more leisurely shopping.

Sears Elected President of District Auditor's Association

Richard M. Sears Black Hawk County Auditor was elected President of the Sixth District County Auditors association. Lloyd G. Bierdeman Clayton County was elected Vice President and Florence E. Rippel Benton County as Treasurer. Sears also designated as a representative of the Sixth District at Iowa State Auditors Association meetings to coordinate district activities and discuss common problems. Sears is a member of the National Association of Finance Officers.

School Christmas Programs Scheduled at High School Gym

The High School vocal and Instrumental Music Department presents its annual Christmas Program next Sunday at 2 00 PM in the High School gym under Ed Brunskill and Harlan Rice. On Monday December 18 the Elementary and Junior High departments perform a combined Christmas program at 7 30 PM in the same gym. Both concerts are free to the public.

VFW 3rd District Meeting Held at Eldora

The 3rd District VFW meeting was hosted by Rolls Harless Post 3974 and the Auxiliary in Eldora on December 2. Attendees from Post 3983 included John Comstock, William ONeill, Roy Yarrow, and Wilmond Geissler. Department Commander Carl Berg and National Youth Activities Chairman Gerald Miller also attended. Geissler received a 100 percent plus post pin, and Comstock earned a district quota portfolio. judges were urged to evaluate Voice of Democracy contestants before the deadline.

Area accidents cause property damage and minor injuries in La Porte City

Local incidents wrap up with three crashes involving teens and young adults. James E. Rice, 16, swerved to avoid a leg in icy conditions on the Golf Club road and suffered a head laceration and bruises. Passenger Ron Pries was shaken up. A 1964 Chevrolet van owned by Kramer Construction Co. sustained front-end damage. driver Stephen Webber, 16, and owner Robert Lee Kramer also earned bruises. Webber was cited for an improper left turn. A third crash on West Main and Oak streets destroyed a 1967 Plymouth. driver John Gregory Walker, 22, Cedar Street, escaped injury but faced careless driving charges.
