Purdy Leaves Africa Mission for Home Run

Euan Purdy arrived home after eight years at a mission station in Africa. She plans a one year deputation in the United States, visiting Mr and Mrs Floyd, relatives in a northern city, and rest before further service. Purdy, a nurse and Bible school teacher, has two four year terms in Africa with the Renor Mission.

Lehmans Celebrate Golden Anniversary at Home

Mr and Mrs Fred E Lehman of this city marked their 50th wedding anniversary with open house on Commercial Street. More than 100 guests attended, including relatives from Cedar Rapids, Waterloo and Elgin. The couple, married November 30 1898, built a life in Elgin La Porte City and later La Porte City hardware. Both maintain good health, share hobbies in woodwork and music, and have one son Frederick B Lehman of Cedar Falls.

Local People to Sing in Messiah at Waterloo Sunday

Mrs Beverly Williams assists as Waterloo joins 170 voices from Waterloo and nearby cities for Handel's Messiah in First Methodist Church Waterloo Sunday at 4:30 p.m. Conductor Maurice Gerow from Cedar Falls and Ford Sunday Engine, with organist Mrs Margaret Draves and pianist Miss Genevieve Anderson. Intermediate Girl Scouts Hold Special Meeting Monday Night

The Intermediate Girl Scouts held a special meeting at the high school gym Monday night. The event featured a vestiture ceremony where pins were awarded and tenderfoot status granted. Schriever Kober Nuptials Solemnized at Evangelical church

Miss Lo Deaiat JRebe and Raymond Schriever wed Tuesday evening at the Evangelical United Brethren church in Waterloo. Relatives attended from out of town, and the ceremony featured a torquoise and silver wedding party outfit and a white chrysanthemum corsage. After the ceremony, guests enjoyed red and white refreshments and a white cake as the couple left for a brief honeymoon in Minnesota.

Chauffeur's Licenses Renewed Next Tuesday at City Hall

A highway patrolman will visit city hall Tuesday evening December 7 from 7:30 to 9:00 to renew chauffeur licenses. Residents should bring required documents and proof of identity for renewal.

Funeral Services Held at Vinton For Mrs. Bierschenk

Mrs Catherine Bierschenk of Vinton died Sunday evening November 1 at her daughter Mrs Hoy Strauch home. Funeral services conducted by Pastor Fo Tschudy at Peace Evangelical and Reformed church in Dysart were held November 1 6 1 with special music by Mrs Merle Stoake and Ralph Holtz. Surviving are Mrs Wilhelm Herman Nashua daughter and eight grandchildren. Mr Strauch Chas Hensing and Reinhard Bierschenk of Vinton. two other children. one brother in Germany. Pallbearers included John Herman Dale Henne and others. Funeral marks her long church membership since 1935 and her residence with her daughter and son-in-law.

Scouts of this district gather for a Scout Court of Honor at 10 in the school lunchroom. Services Held Monday for Mrs E Harvey and Family

Funeral services for Mrs. E Harvey were held at the Parrot and Wood Chapel in Waltrip with Dean Morey presiding. The body was later moved to Creston, Town for burial beside family. surviving are her husband two sons Lyle Harvey of Waterloo and Leo Harvey of Clarksville a daughter Mary Taylor of Waterloo two grandchildren and other relatives.

Chris Girsch Buys Cigar Store From John Betts

Chris Girsch purchases the John Betts Cigar Store in La Porte City from John Betts who retires after 23 years in local business. Betts began as Hod Adams Cigar and News Stand, later John Betts Candy Store, then sold to Ray Stiuhnke before moving to Waterlo o. Girsch, World War I veteran, previously farmed northwest of the city and held a closing out sale on November 29.

Scouts Prepare for Court of Honor At Monday Meeting

All 14 Boy Scouts attended in full dress uniforms as they planned for the December 9 court of honor. Alfred B. Pierce led the meeting with inspection, tenderfoot tests, first class insignia work, and preparation for the ceremony.

Carl Kober's southern trip covers eight states and notable sites

Carl Kober returned home Friday night from a long southern journey starting November 2. He travelled nearly 5700 miles through Tina Tennessee Kentucky Alabama Mississippi Georgia Florida and Missouri. He visited Montgomery Alabama and the governor's mansion once the site of Jefferson Davis oath of office with a marker, the Historical Museum, Miami Beach Florida, Singing Tower Cypress Gardens and Silver Springs. He also toured Wilson Dam Muscle Shoals and the TVA power plant and sought treatment at a Veterans hospital in Lake City Florida.

La Porte City High School Carnival Friday Night

La Porte City High School hosts a Friday evening carnival in the school gym at seven. Candidates for carnival queen include Marty Bible, Darlene West, Shirley Kuhn, and Mardene Harting with voting by corn ears and cash donations. Independents Open Season, Lose to Denver in Opener

La Porte City Independents fell 53 to 33 at Denver in their opener played with no practice and two absentees due to illness. The game stayed close until the final minutes as Denver pulled away. McDonox led La Porte City with punts. Woolrick and Bruns topped Denver with 14 points each.
