Funeral services for 83 year old John Meier longtime La Porte City resident were held Saturday at 2 pm at Johannsen funeral home Rev Oliver Jensen of the Methodist church presiding Paul Davison sang Rock of Ages with Mrs Herbert Johannsen at the organ Casket attendants were Ray Runyan Ed Abel Herman Bauer Henry Kuhn Frank Edgeton and Nick Kettiman Interment was in West View cemetery Meier died at Detention hospital Waterloo from complications of old age and effects of a stroke suffered a month earlier He was born in Germany April 12 1866 came to the US at age 12 and lived in Gilbertville Washington and Iowa before settling in La Porte City He was married in Washington and was predeceased by his wives several brothers and sisters Surviving relatives are nieces and nephews He worked on farms in Washington and Iowa later employed at La Porte City Cement Block Company and other jobs He was caretaker of the local golf course for five years

Milne Buys Feed Store from S Bellinger in Town Deal
Joe Milne completed a purchase last week of the feed store operated by Shel by Bellinger who ran it for the past year and four half. Milne took possession recently while Bellinger continues trucking and uses his home as headquarters. Bellinger will keep dealing in hay straw grain and baling and supply feed and bedding for the National Dairy Cattle Congress and other shows. Milne previously worked in elevator business with his father W W Milne.

Students Attend Third Annual All-State Music Festival Des Moines
Four local high school students Marilyn Snow Janet Weir George Rothmeier and Tom Gill with vocal instructor Miss Mabel Ormston traveled to Des Moines for rehearsals at Roosevelt high school and KRNT theater and a Saturday concert broadcast by KRNT. About 1800 students from 221 Iowa schools joined a 1200 voice chorus with conductors Joseph Wagner Duluth Minnesota William D Revelli Michigan and David Foltz Nebraska directing the ensemble.

La Porte City's Rams extended their winning streak with a 61 31 victory over Dunkerton on their floor. It marked the fourth straight road loss for Dunkerton as coach Howard Larson used his second unit late. Peck Rites Held At Brandon For Dale Peck
Brandon special report funeral services were held Friday at 2 p.m. in the Brandon Methodist Church for Dale Peck 27 son of Mr and Mrs George Peck. A World War II veteran, he was honored by a service crew of veterans. Singers Mrs Frank Brooks and Albert Gates, with pianist Mrs Everett Weart, led hymns as service men marched in. He leaves two sisters Marian and Beverly. Burial followed in Brandon Cemetery.

Hains Services Held Today at Mt. Auburn
Charles Hains died at Vin ton hospital after a stroke. Born in Brandon in 1877, he married Jessie Newell in 1901 and is survived by a wife, three children, four grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. Funeral was at Church of Christ Mt. Auburn, with burial in Mt. Auburn cemetery.
