Treasury economist Henry Lewis said Ford’s general price reduction on automobiles will trigger widespread cuts across many necessities. He warned that other products including agricultural machinery stoves hardware waterproof clothing and building materials could follow suit as manufacturers respond to the lower auto prices.
Versailles reports Premier Millerand was elected president of France without serious opposition after Deschanele resigned due to ill health. The result was expected once Deschanele announced his departure, though radical groups had sought his defeat.
The Princeton Advertising club auction sale committee attended the Claude Thompson Duroc hog sale at Oakland City in the campaign for listing property for the first monthly auction sale to be held on October 11.
H. H. Franklin Manufacturing Company announced a price cut of 17 to 21 percent on Franklin automobiles. President H. H. Franklin endorses the move alongside Ford to return to pre war price levels. Wages at the factory will not be affected.
Chicago notices price cuts of 10 to 20 percent on many merchandise lines in a new Chicago mail order catalogue effective immediately. Muslin and percales join the cuts and clothing prices drop. Furniture faces a 25 percent reduction while food prices remain unchanged. The city council committee on the living cost orders a war on high priced furniture.
Chicago corn slipped below the 100 cent mark on the Chicago board of trade as December futures closed at 99 1 8 to 99 7 8 cents. Analysts attributed the drop to favorable weather speeding the corn crop ripening.
A dynamite bomb with a lighted fuse was found in the wash room of a Brooklyn Rapid Transit elevated line station by a policeman. He extinguished the fuse. The package contained enough dynamite to blow up an entire neighborhood. The crowded platform was unusually high.
George Gray aged 34, who had been bedbound for seven years with a broken back from a slate fall, is now able to walk after surgical treatment in Terre Haute.

Commander Daniel Halt opened the Grand Army of the Republic encampment in Indianapolis with a 1 500 delegate address praising Civil War veterans as bulwarks of freedom. About 18 000 veterans paraded to conclude the fifty fourth annual gathering as national officials watched from the state house lawn.
Two armed bandits stopped a U.S. mail truck near New York Central station in South Bend, looting about $5,000 from seventeen mail sacks. The driver fled as the robbers forced the truck to the outskirts, then escaped.

Victor Schepers aged 12 in Jasper Indiana was injured after falling from a hay loft onto a pitchfork prong that pierced his throat above the larynx and exited by the left ear. He also sustained a broken left shoulder and arm and a lantern he carried was extinguished. doctors expect he will survive.
William G Berry 28 a coal miner of Coal Bluff died after inhaling black damp while cleaning his home well. A World War veteran, he tried to climb out when he smelled gas. He is survived by his widow, one son, and his Rockville, Indiana parents. Joseph Smith and Andrew Bates were loading a pulling machine onto the Smith wagon near their west city home when a horse broke its leg as the machine slipped and fell. The mare died, and Bates injured his ankle while leaping from the wagon to avoid the danger.
