Miss Vera Yates visits Terre Haute while Gibson County fair welcomes large Friday crowds. The dedication honors a 1 204 star flag as Private Frank Woodeste of Canada delivers the address. Racing offers four events with over 40 starters, track conditions improving. Aeroplanes over the grounds and balloon dangers add spectacle.
Food Administrator Tichenor seized 300 pounds of sugar from J. Cameron’s Dameron stand at the Evanaville fairgrounds on a Thursday morning. About 10 pounds were kept for the day. The sugar, bought from Vickery Bros. in Evansville without a permit, awaits disposition.
Miss Carrie Foreman of Danville Illinois visits South Main Street guest Miss Ruth Cooper. Second Lieut Raymond Lautenslager leaves for Camp Pike Little Rock Arkansas. Pleas Alcorn from Great Lakes Naval Station home with parents. Mrs Harry Lautenslager heads to Ft Branch then Evansville for shorthand review. Mr and Mrs Net Greene and son from Poseyville visit sister Mrs James Kessner. Mrs John Fithian and family go to Los Angeles for extended visit with Dr A Hillman. Carl Wilhite at Camp Zachary Taylor leaves after days with mother on North West Street. Mr and Mrs Edward Droll of Evansville return from visit with parents on North Main Street. Esther Barnett of Hazleton visits Miss Jessie Finney and the fair. Mrs Urba Ogle of Terre Haute visits with her parents on South Seminary Street.
Mrs. Sisson announces the marriage of her son Clifford Beeman to Miss Tossie Rappe in Oklahoma City on August 28. The couple will reside in Lawton Oklahoma.
Boston, Sept. 6. The Red Sox beat the Cubs 1 to 0 in a sparse World Series opener. Ruth allowed six hits to Hippo Vaughn as Babe Ruth and Agnew held Chicago scoreless. Attendance listed at 19,247 with many seats vacant in all sections.
Camden Cox a well known retired farmer of Gibson county died at his home east of the city on Thursday September 5 1918 at age 69 years 3 months and 10 days He had been in declining health five years and bedfast three weeks Surviving children are Ballard Cox Hunt ingburg Bruce Cox in the Engineers training camp Camp Humphrey Va Mrs Armeda Corder and Evelyn Cox The Masonic lodge at Oakland City will conduct the funeral and the burial will be in the family grounds at Huntingburg Indiana dates to be set after hearing from his son in army service.
A large crowd gathered at the Southern station to bid farewell to 59 Gibson county men departing as selectives. The list includes Chi M. Waggoner Rocie Walker William H. Pritchett Roy McCleary Lester C. Phipps Harry E. Lautenslager Louis Gaiser Noble M. Smith John A. Ahiman Charles Barnes etc. Transfer recipients include Waggoner Walker.
