Evidence starts in the Brumfield murder trial as a Douglas County jury of ranchers is seated. Prosecution has subpoenaed over 50 witnesses while Brumfield is aided by two Indiana brothers and Canadian authorities.
Ronald Redman one year old son of Mr. and Mrs. George Redman of Branch Ind was seriously injured Monday afternoon playing ball at school grounds when a bat slipped from a player’s hand and struck his forehead fracturing the skull. He was knocked unconscious and did not regain consciousness until arriving at the Methodist hospital in Princeton where he again lapsed and underwent surgery. He is said to have a fighting chance for recovery.
Soundings for the White River highway bridge at Hazleton are nearly finished and work runs in the river bottoms. The state highway commission reports War Department approval for a 1 725 foot steel bridge on the Dixie Bee line, to cost about 500000 and begin early next spring.
WYER Ind Oct 11 The small town bank of Dyer was robbed of 6000 in cash and 4000 in Liberty bonds shortly before noon. Two bank officials and four customers were inside when the robbers ordered them to the walls then bagged cash from the vault and bonds. The five fled in a touring car, suspected to be Chicago operatives.
Two armed bandits on a street car robbed bank messenger Robert Hardiman of 17650 dollars in cash and 61666 in non negotiable checks.
Two bandits robbed the Muncie bank in Muncie Kansas on Monday and escaped with eight thousand dollars in cash. Police pursue leads as the heist shocks local residents and prompts renewed patrols.
Circuit Court Judge BR Baltzell ruled in Minnie Sloan versus Isaac Newton Sloan granting Newton Sloan an absolute divorce. Minnie claimed drunkenness and failure to provide while Newton alleged cruel treatment. The cross-complaint was lengthy with claims of wife assault using a poker. Attorneys were H C Kirk Claude A Smith for Mrs Sloan and Oscar Lanphar for the defendant.
At the regular Rotary gathering in Princeton four new members were welcomed out of seven approved by the board. The inductees were Rev. Louden A. Harriman of the First Presbyterian Church, Floyd Loper principal of the high school, Rev. Fr. Nicholas A. Hassell of the Catholic Church, and Charles A. Steele coal dealer. The group expressed optimism about their future as Rotary members. The next meeting will feature Alien B. Alberts as the guest speaker.
The House rules committee opens a review into the Ku Klux Klan to decide if a special inquiry is needed. Rep Campbell and Attorney General Daugherty discuss evidence while Kane accuses the order of tax avoidance and masking strength behind leaders. Elizabeth Tyler is named as a leading figure behind the Klan.
Joseph Carithers Sr settled a damage case with his brother Thomas by delivering a large check for 28844.12 drawn on Peoples American National Bank at Posey County Court. The judgment plus costs totaled 286.45, awarded after a trial before Judge Clements.
Paul Daugherty of East Broad Way had a morning operation to remove tonsils at Methodist hospital. Mrs. Clarence Frayel of Owensville underwent a major operation at the same hospital. Mrs. Tyler Reed and her baby from Centreville were dismissed to Mrs. Reed's mother Mrs. Williams in Owensville. Ronald Redman of Ft. Branch rests this afternoon at Methodist hospital.
Claud Gregg of Vincennes was chosen commander amid a warm contest. Other officers elected include vice commander Charles Hunt of Jeffersonville, second vice Oswald Nyas of Anderson, national executive committee member Eston Porter of Whiting, adjutant Frank Henry of Wabash, treasurer Ralph Switzer of Seymour, and chaplain W. L. Marlin of New Palestine.

First loads of gravel from the Mitchell farm north of the city were placed on the state highway south of Princeton on Monday and Tuesday. Officials hope the rough section can be repaired quickly but note gravel production must be expedited to finish the job.
