Evansville merchants initiate a citywide sale valued at five million dollars starting Tuesday as price cuts reach up to thirty percent. The move aligns with national promotions though annual spring and summer clearance patterns are noted for dry goods shoes clothing and home furnishings.
Allen Gray financier shows improvement after two weeks of critical illness at Walker hospital in Evansville. Dr. James Y. Welborn reports cautiously hopeful progress in the past day or two as his two brothers Wil and Harry travel from San Diego to be at his bedside. Mrs Schildroth and Esther May Sterne have returned home after visiting relatives in Belleville.
A crowd is expected for the 500 mile race at Indianapolis speedway with 25 entrants from the United States and Europe. Prize money totals $85,000 with $100 per mile and top ten prizes. Barney Oldfield to pace the field at 85 mph.
Organizations taking part in the Decoration Day parade meet at the library at 1 o clock. The parade forms on Water street and is expected to be one of the citys largest. The G A R post Spanish war veterans American Legion post and Sons of Veterans join the line with the Princeton band leading. Several Southern Indiana towns held Memorial day exercises Sunday instead.

Mr and Mrs Thomas R Paxton invite friends to call between 8 and 11 Tuesday evening to meet Mr and Mrs Percy J Paxton. No other invitations.
Miss Maude Strickland and Miss Florence Kelmer left the latter part of the week for Chattanooga Tennessee to remain over for Decoration Day and spend a few days there.

The Gibson Street Memorial M. E. church fund drive to raise money for a new church is well underway. Intermediate Sunday school children sold tags on streets Saturday, and the drive continued today with donations accepted at the tent on the courthouse lawn. Tags were also available from drive organizers at the tent.
Armour Grain company was fined 1050 in federal court for adulterating 35 cars of oats by mixing barley. The shipment, intended for armies in France, was seized in transit at Baltimore by government agents after the company pleaded guilty.
John Cort, New York producer visiting Cleveland reports a 50 percent rise in theatrical business since prohibition began. He asserts the dry era saved the legitimate stage from a disastrous period and calls prohibition and the theater good friends, noting millions added to theater coffers.
An early morning crash at the southeast corner of the public square sent a post for the metal awning of Null Bros grocery shed to sag. The car skidded on slick pavement around 8 30 injuring no one. Front axle and fender damaged. Nelson Jones and sister escaped unhurt.
The U S House approved the soldier relief bill 289 to 92 on Saturday and sent it to the Senate. Test votes during the suspension process narrowed the two-thirds requirement, while debates centered on the gag rule and the method to apply the measure’s taxing provisions. Senators and representatives argued over patriotism, fiscal impact, and aid to disabled veterans as the measure moved toward final action. James Dame of St. Louis arrived to visit his parents in the city.
