The freight congestion in the United States rail system is easing as car accumulation drops from 269,500 on April 24 to about 170,000 by May 2. Officials say the peak may be behind them though the blockade is not fully resolved.
Joseph Auth testified in his own defense in a murder case in New York. He is alleged to have been the lookout for Jesse Walker of Evansville and Guy Nichols of New York, who have already been sentenced to death. Extracts from Ruth's diary referenced the purchase of weapons and pills.
The Gibson Memorial M. E. church aims to construct a community church on the corner of Gibson and Indiana streets to serve a growing Princeton area. Pastor Rev. H. A. Sprague and officers urge broad public support with a tag day from May 20 to May 31 to fund the project.

Indianapolis May 26 One of the main questions at Vincennes June 28 29 will be whether the Indiana American Legion should publish a monthly department magazine The effort aims to unite 290 posts and strengthen cooperation with neighboring groups The plan would be region funded self sustaining and run by a publishing board with dues possibly rising for a subscription The convention will consider the publication and report figures on cost plus select a new state commander from Col Gignilliat William Betz or Morris Levi.
Hazleton Indiana May 26 a sedan plunged from a ferry boat into White river killing 12 year old Marjorie Steelman daughter of Frank and Mrs Steelman. Mother and Mary Elinor aged five escaped but the car sank with Lucile and Leslie surviving. The accident blamed on the driver mis pressing pedal and unfamiliar light car. Funeral set for Thursday at 2 30 pm at the home with burial in the local cemetery.
White River bottom land owners meeting in a Gibson county court room appointed a three man committee to represent the county in upcoming talks led by W D Crull of Petersburg. The group aims to back a government survey to assess levees or river straightening as plans to curb annual floods grow more urgent.
A Mexican commission reports Rodolfo Herrero and followers planned and carried out the assassination of former President Carranza. It calls for a formal hearing to establish Herrero's motive and notes the coup was planned by gaining Carranza's confidence before the attack from multiple directions.
Federal Judge A B Anderson sustained 2 motions to quash 14 counts against 125 miners and operators under the Lever Act. Section 9 upheld as constitutional, sections 4 and 6 deemed discriminatory void. Washington May 26 Article 27 of the Mexican constitution may be eliminated or altered by the new regime harming Carranza era confiscatory oil laws. Mexico's foreign debts with interest total about 85.2 million dollars.
Word from railroad circles says the outlaw switchmen strike at East St Louis is broken with six men back to work Tuesday and about twenty five more today. Yard switching is expected to return to normal in a few days as Southern railroad officials and others had shouldered the duties. Strikers are set to resume full operations within a day or two as more return to work.
The census bureau released counts for Huntingburg and Rochester in Indiana. Huntingburg has 3,261 residents, up 797 from prior totals, while Rochester lists 3,720 residents, an increase of 306.
Food prices declined in Chicago with staple vegetables and fruits dropping 25 to 35 percent. Commission men forecast further declines as summer approaches.
President Wilson appoints Mrs Helen Hamilton Gardener to the Civil Service Commission, the highest federal office for a woman. A suffrage leader and writer, she will oversee about 500000 civil service nominees, roughly half of whom are women seeking representation on the commission.
Thirty-nine students of Prince ton high school will receive diplomas at the annual commencement in the high school auditorium Thursday night. Prof. George H. Tapy will deliver the address. Admission is 25 cents to help cover expenses. Pictures of the graduates appear on the paper’s second page. Fifteen graduates are boys and the rest are girls.
