Marriage license issued Tuesday at Vincennes to Alfred Jordan of Owensville KR FLD No 2 and Florence Shoats of Mt. Carmel. Classified ads offer b uyer and seller spots for second hand articles in The Democrat.
United Press reports Chicago May 25 that railroad executives asked the railroad board to wipe wages and agreements from federal control from the record and start anew. Whiter argued compensations under federal control should not be part of the wage dispute and urged revisiting the wage issue back to 1915.
Herbert Hoover testified before the Lux legislative committee in New York noting the administration failed to buy the Cuban sugar crop at six and a half cents a pound. He argued sugar would sell for 12 to 13 cents a pound if action had been taken last summer. Hoover faulted the president, attorney general, and cabinet members for the lapse.
Police arrested Oscar Alvis after imbibing lemon extract. Several bottles were found on his person along with another fluid awaiting analysis by authorities. Arraignment or formal charge pending the return of Prosecutor Clarke who was out of town. Mr and Mrs Charles Taft and family visiting relatives.

In Indianapolis on May 25 the note from the Jackson County fish game and forest protective association warns that Robins and jays and all migratory birds fall under state and federal protection. The letter states boys with air rifles and slingshots are killing song and insectivorous birds across the county prompting prosecution.
In Indianapolis on May 25 the state entomologist Frank N. Wallace of the state conservation department reports fewer cutworms this year. He attributes the drop to robins feeding on the worms and repeated cultivation of gardens.
After a citywide warning from Chief Guthrie, traffic moved slower around the square on Monday night and Tuesday. Pedestrians report a safer feel as the absence of roaring cutouts reduced fast driving and overall noise. Mrs. Thomas Plaiss and Mrs. Loris Goodbub of New Albany visited Mrs. Tillie Lamb while Mrs. Raymond Wolfe returned home to Mount Carmel after staying with her parents on South Main Street.
Washington May 25 The Interstate Commerce Commission resumed hearings on railroad petitions to raise freight rates by about 1.7 billion dollars. Daniel Willard president of the B and O testified that railroads are not returned to owners in same condition after government control and that B and O holds 5 to 6 million dollars in claims against the government. He warned that without higher rates passenger fares may rise to four to five cents a mile and that a six percent return is needed. The ICC also reports progress in clearing car congestion in terminals.
At the Rotary Club meeting the public affairs committee voted to boost Princeton's industries to attract new ones. The Mowry Brothers Milling Company at 929 South Main Street plans burr corn meal and buckwheat pancake flour, with a short milling system saving time and nutrients. Two additional workers, a miller, a power plant, and two more men will join. stock food production and future plant openings are anticipated. Public invitations to tour and sample will follow.
The Public Service Commission in Indianapolis appeals to Indiana residents to report coal car and fuel shortages. Vice chairman John W. McCardle asks the public to notify the commission of sidetracked coal cars as agents tour railroads. The move follows reports of 30 coal cars sidetracked near Kingston.
A Southern switch engine and a Standard Oil Co. truck collided about 4 PM on the Prown Street crossing near the oil tanks in the West End. Both crews escaped injury though the truck and engine were damaged. drivers Butch Davidson and Roy Robb were at the wheel, warned by engine crew after the crash.
The national league of women voters announced platform planks to be submitted to both conventions. They include child welfare and labor, a federal department of education, more federal training in home economics, government supervision of food distribution and marketing, and legislation protecting a woman’s citizenship if she marries a foreigner.
The season closes as Howard Baker's lease expires on the north side business room housing the Princeton bowling alley. The alley is torn out ending the season while fall and winter bowling solidified its place locally. Princeton bowlers performed well in tournaments and Baker reports solid business success.
Bloomington May 25 Five candidates were in the field for state commander of the G A R as 1200 war veterans gathered for their forty first annual state encampment. Auxiliary groups swelled attendance to over 3000 with the Indiana University ROTC tents aiding veterans. A drum corps and a reception planned for tonight precede the grand parade set for Thursday afternoon.
The Census Bureau reports Liberty Indiana with 1292 residents, down 64 from prior counts and Delphi Indiana with 2087 residents, down 74.
The Princeton post of the American Legion conducts a membership drive this week. With 1 member now, it hopes to reach 2 before Thursday night’s smoker at city hall, where two delegates and two alternates will be elected to attend the state convention in Vincennes next week.
United Press reports in Chicago that relief from the freight car shortage was anticipated today following a meeting of three Midwest railroad executives aimed at ending the equipment tieup.
Dr. A H Rhodes and Dr R A Cushman depart Sunday for Washington Illinois to attend the Association of Southern Railroad Surgeons meeting. They travel with families and will be away eight to ten days. The trip includes a visit to New York City Vis Povett.
George Reed nineteen was arrested late Monday after allegedly stealing twenty five dollars from Andrew Carey dairyman west of the city. Money was found on Reed when detained crossing the Southern Railroad bridge toward Mt Carmel. Sheriff Flowers escorted the prisoner to Mt Carmel Tuesday. Rebekah Lodge plans to attend Hazleton County Session Wednesday with a prepared program. Martha Lodge degree staff from the city will confer the degree and travel by automobile to the gathering.
