Report from Columbus New Mexico says villa bandits recruit as American troops retreat. Peons are forced to join bandits, forced to cook, and shown that Villa would lead them to loot left by fleeing U.S. forces. Pershing dispatches scouting parties to assess the threat for General Funston.
President Wilson approved an amendment to the Postal Savings Act raising the maximum postal savings deposit to 4000 and abolishing the monthly deposit limit of 100. Postmaster General Burleson and Third Assistant Postmaster General Dockery led the efforts, noting the system already holds over eighty million dollars for more than half a million depositors.
London May 24 The Exchange Telegraph reported good authority that Prince Von Buelow former chancellor may become the German ambassador to Washington. The Telegraph says a rearrangement of the German diplomatic corps is planned. The claim is not corroborated by other sources though Bernstorff has been rumored for a high post.
Announcement cards report the birth of a son to Mr and Mrs Arthur H Taylor at their Turtle Creek Pennsylvania home Saturday May 20. The infant is named Arthur Hobart with the mother formerly Miss Ida Meyer of the city.
A Gibson County meeting at the Chamber of Commerce is set to organize a branch of the Hoosier Motor Club. Motor owners are urged to attend as experts including Mr. C. Jones of Indianapolis will discuss traffic questions and road posting benefits for travelers.
Waukegan Illinois May 24 The Orpet murder trial enters its ninth day with bank presidents and prominent business men among a new jury panel of 100 talesmen as four jurors remain seated. Orpet trains for his testimony while defense cites Perley Burritt of Lake Forest as a pivotal witness detailing cyanide sales to the Lambert family.
New York May 24 Dr Arthur Warren Waite told Percy Peck his brother in law that John Peck was suffering from grief over his wife’s death and might not live long He also pressed for Mrs Waite to receive part of the estate before John E Peck's will was probated Percy Peck testified Clara Louise Peck was named by him The state focused on corroborating minor witnesses including Arthur Pooley who said Waite and Kate were present and the embalming fluid samples were identified A book of poison found in Waite's apartments was noted by the district attorney and investigators

May 245 report from Washington says 116 Texas militiamen who failed to answer border duty muster may avoid court martial if they present themselves to a new call by President Wilson. The bill, expected to be signed, would abolish the offense of failure to present for muster.
Earl J. Kolb, a Princeton student at Indiana University, is named second prize winner in a state wide contest for the essay concerning German influence. The contest was open to all undergraduates of Indiana colleges and universities. Kolb receives 30 dollars.
Rehearsals for a five episode historical pageant in Owensville Indiana for the state centennial celebration June 7-8 feature a cast of 300. Episodes cover Indiana before man, Piankashaw arrival, settlement era led by John C Warrick, and the underground railroad civil war, concluding with Indiana prosperity and Gibson county progress.
A week of alumni activities at the college ends with the annual alumni association meeting Friday evening and the commencement ceremony scheduled Friday afternoon at the General Baptist church program.
