United Press dispatch from Washington May 23 reports Senate Democrats and Republicans moving to argue Johnson's demand for a Russian policy statement. Charles R Crane was ordered to the Near East to investigate mandates in Syria and other regions. The committee favors the allied covenant over the German plan though some German ideas may be considered later. Officials say no international mediation body will have binding authority to settle disputes. Allies reject Germanys claim on economic conditions and deem the German report exaggerated. One German assertion warned treaty signers would seal a death sentence for many people.
Berlin May 23 Alteration of Germany final counter proposal undertaken after time limit extension reports say Foreign Minister Brockdorff Rantzau head of delegation disapproved of changes. Count Bernstorff may travel to Spa to confer with Rantzau as Berlin workmen and soldiers council urged treaty signing yesterday.
The Lincoln high school commencement occurs this evening in Princeton High School auditorium. Two graduates, Erlena Guthrie and George Fisher, receive diplomas. The program features songs, two addresses, and diploma presentations by Thomas W. Cullen. Mr and Mrs Roy L. Kifer visit Princeton.
Princeton High School commencement drew 29 graduates as President Grose of DePauw University delivered an address on Democratic Education. The program included invocations, melodies by the Girls Glee Club, violin solo by Madeline Mitchell, and diplomas presented by Supt. Fagan to the class of 1919 amid applause.
The city of Princeton has subscribed half of the county quota for the Salvation Army Home Service Fund drive, with a total expected to top $4,500. Elks organized house to house canvassing in yesterday’s rain, netting $1,100 with $700 previously reported. Department pledges, township participation, and weather delays affect reports, but organizers aim to reach the goal by next week. Center township pledges creditable support, and residents are urged to contribute at banks, newspaper offices, or through the Elks.
Circuit Court today heard the case of John Miley against G W White Lumber Co seeking to recover money paid while Miley was employed by the company. John Oiphant of the State Highway Commission will speak at a mass meeting Saturday at 10:00 a m in the court room urging attendance and support for the White River bridge project. Evansville is noted for a high price context in the report.
The second game of the local baseball season is set for Sunday afternoon at Coal Mine Park. Princeton’s regular lineup will be used with Day of Jasper likely starting, Meuser to pitch, and Carrel catching. Start time is 2 PM to let fans attend the Scottish Highlander Band concert at 4 PM.
Mr and Mrs Rufus W Hart of 515 Water Street announce the arrival of their son Sergeant William Hart of the 116th Infantry at Newport News Virginia last Tuesday He will be mustered out near home Sergeant Hart formerly served with Company M and sailed for France last fall with the headquarters company 152nd Infantry Also Herman R Phillips son of Mr and Mrs James M Phillips of Hazleton has returned from Camp Sherman Ohio Discharged May 21 after eight months overseas with Co C 114th Field Signal Battalion He left the United States August 22 1918 with the 39th Division which included guardsmen from Arkansas Louisiana and Mississippi He was stationed at Camp Taylor Kentucky May 27 1918 and Camp Beauregard Louisiana before joining the field signal battalion of the 30th Division
Dr. A H Rhodes purchased the office building formerly occupied by Dr R B Anderson on South Main Street and will take possession after Baltzell and Baltzell relocate to another location.
Archer Post No 28 G A R veterans and sons of veterans will gather at G A R hall Sunday May 25 at 1 30 p m for a memorial service at First M E church.
