Roy Halford Lygia Jd Kaufman Ada G Eaves Frank Clements and others spoke on topics from American Democracy to Domestic Art. A reception for about 150 guests followed at the K of P hall with music and refreshments.
Washington May 28 President Wilson completed a note protesting British mail seizures and sent it to Secretary Lansing for signature. The legal communique directs Ambassador Page to press the complaint and argues the patrol cruisers’ practice violates international law by delaying neutral United States mail and censoring it at British ports.
Patrons at the New Star will see Valeska Surratt, born near Owensville in Gibson county, perform in The Soul of Broadway. Surratt, a leading musical comedy star, has signed a movie contract. Her family is well known in Gibson county. John Zengler, delayed by his son Chester’s illness in Denver, has returned home. Chester moved from Denver to Arvada.
The Sunday School of the First Mission Church will hold a picnic Thursday May 28 at Yeager Woods north of the church. All attendees are invited for a day of activities and fellowship.

Colgate, a new mining town 16 miles south of Petersburg Indiana, forms today near the Hartwell coal mines and Colgate sorghum mills. The settlement spans 159 acres once owned by Charles G. Hatter and is celebrated with a barbecue and bands attracting countywide attendance. Hartwell mines have begun operations and employ about 200 workers.
