Stanley Baldwin is announced as the new British prime minister after his conference with King George following the cabinet reshuffle and political crisis. The decision marks a shift in leadership as Baldwin assumes office amid parliamentary tensions.
Stanley Baldwin, former chancellor of the exchequer in Bonar Law’s government, is named premier of Great Britain. He was summoned to Buckingham Palace by King George and accepted the invitation to form a new government after consultations with Conservative leaders.
Miss Nodin Watkins and Flora Bush both of Oakland City and Bill Warner and Buddie Lindsay of Winslow were injured in a Sunday collision on the Winslow road. Miss Bush suffered a fractured ankle, Warner a broken shoulder, Miss Watkins cuts and bruises, Lindsay unharmed as both cars were badly damaged.

May 22 report states state auto officers will patrol all highways to Indianapolis for Decoration Day to curb speeding. Seliman Schulz will ride the Dixie highway from Evansville to Vincennes and watch for cars without 1923 licenses. The squad includes eighteen patrolmen and two inspectors.
The White House says the United States will negotiate directly with Shantung bandits to free American and other foreign prisoners if needed. In Pekin the legations warn travelers to avoid bandit areas as captives remain on mountain tops surrounded by disease haulers and armed brigands.
William Phelps aged 65 died after being pinned by wagon wheels while loading rails on the John Mooney farm north of Francisco. He had suffered injuries last Friday and died Tuesday morning at his home. Survived by his widow and one adopted daughter. funeral plans not announced.
The League of Women Voters held an election at City Hall on Monday. Christine Cunningham was named president and Katherine Youngman secretary. Florence Strain became treasurer with several vice presidents elected, and Mrs. Thomas Dimean reported on the Indianapolis State Convention held May 1 to 3 with the theme Know Your Own Country. Messages of greeting came from President Harding and other leaders.
Purdue University catcher A. W. Menke of Elberfeld broke his leg in a practice game at Lafayette yesterday and will miss the rest of the season. Menke had been performing well for the Purdue squad prior to the accident.
New York May 22 Broadway celebrates two divorces as Irene Fenwick and Lionel Barrymore plan a June marriage in Europe. Barrymore, previously divorced from Doris Rankin, and Fenwick, linked by a jewelry dispute, will wed abroad after Fenwick's return to Europe for a new stage project.
C M Kiger an employee of J Heinz Co narrowly escaped death when his coupe was struck by a southbound C E J freight train at a road crossing south of the Heinz building. He leaped free just as the engine stalled on the track suffering only slight injuries. The wrecked car was carried by the train a distance before it stopped.
The Boy Scout Troop No. 1 plans an eight mile cross country run for some time next week. The route likely starts at Princeton Pa and Pa. The race will include a mile event and relay segments with wig wag signals. Winners will receive prizes.
Mostly cloudy conditions with probable showers in southern areas tonight. Temperatures remain steady with highs near 76 and lows around 50s, and a 6 PM reading of 51. Sunset Tuesday at 6 59 and sunrise Wednesday at 4 54.
The daily program begins Monday June 4 and runs for about a month with morning tours from 30 dollars until 11. Children aged 4 to 8 are welcome whether or not they are church members. Miss Maude Schaible leads as principal with Miss Isabel Watt and Mrs Richard H Alcorn as teachers. A donation is requested per child. Officers and directors from Consolidated Oil Co arrived in Princeton from Indianapolis and other points to inspect oil fields east and northeast of the city. The gathering coincides with the annual meeting moved from Indianapolis to Princeton, with business to be transacted and a tour of property followed by dinner and meetings.
At Princeton Band organization meeting in the Chamber of Commerce room plans are made for a first gathering Sunday at 2 PM on the second floor rear room of Red Men hall at Main and Broadway. Musicians of Gibson county are invited to join and bring instruments. A proposed director and instructor will be present to recruit members and arrange teaching. Rehearsals will be free with optional private lessons.
In Harrisburg May 22 residents of Dorrisville set coal oil afire to a small two room shack after two white women Mrs. Sam Duffee and Mrs. Alice Vickers and a Negro man Lemuel Neely were arrested in the box house. The shack burned while the trio were before police court. The Negro is jailed. The Vickers woman remains jailed for fine nonpayment. Duffee woman escaped after paying a fine. Indignation runs high in Dorrisville.
Clara Phillips in Tegucigalpa offered to pay Honduran police the amount posted by American authorities to secure her release. Authorities refused. She fights extradition to California where she is under sentence for killing Mrs Alberta Meadows with a hammer and claims another woman framed her.
In Indianapolis on May 22 the Presbyterian general assembly committee on temperance adopted resolutions decrying New York state repeal of prohibition law as a step to undermine enforcement. The panel urged Governor Smith to veto the bill and praised President Harding for strict enforcement, calling to deny protection to rum running vessels within the three mile limit.
J W Adams Jr of Princeton Indiana arrived in Indianapolis on Friday with two carloads of hogs consigned to the Producers Commission Association. In its first year the firm has served more than 35000 patrons and moved 203 carloads last week while the next largest firm handled 85 carloads.
The Lincoln High School baccalaureate was held Sunday afternoon at 4 in the A. M. E. church with Rev. Walter Chennault delivering the address. Five seniors are listed: Nali Barnes, Herman Russell, Wendell Jones, Allen Hardiman, and Wanita Nash. The commencement is set for Thursday night in Princeton High School auditorium with an address by Prof. J. W. Bell of Hopkinsville Kentucky.
Cedar Rapids reports May 22 post as Hanford American Legion discovers red payer poppies sold for Poppy day May 26 bear the label Made in Germany. The post will vote to burn 180 dollars worth or sell them anyway after a firm from Indiana said domestic supply exhausted.
The Junior class will hold the annual reception for graduating seniors Wednesday night at Masonic Temple. After the banquet a dance follows in Ben Hur hall. Stew art Watson leads the junior class. senior president is Lenora Welborn.
Samuel Rea president of the Pennsylvania railroad notified the United States railroad board he would appear May 28 to explain his company stance on a wage increase.
Western Oklahoma faced floods and a near tornado with hail and strong winds. Leedey area was the storm center as rail and wire lines remained down making damage and casualties uncertain. Unconfirmed reports indicated several deaths and rivers at flood stage across the region.
The high school auditorium hosted a departmental musical directed by Miss Nellie Carmean. About 230 voices formed the chorus performing classical numbers with clear unison while the high school orchestra offered two pieces during intermission. Mrs. Katherine Alexander accompanied on piano as the program received wide appreciation from pupils, parents, and friends.
Marion Ohio May 22 Banks refuse further loans leaving the city short of funds until fall. City council asks the mayor to find a way to pay policemen and city employees until September while considering an occupational tax to cover expenses. Mayor Neely vetoes the tax but banks extend a final 8500 loan for back salaries before delaying funding again until August.
Mrs. Frank Kimbrough of 406 East Broadway greets the arrival of a daughter Norma Jean born Sunday morning correcting prior report that she would arrive Saturday. Separately, Mr. and Mrs. William H. Keebler of 1019 South Stormont Ave. announce the birth of a daughter on Monday morning.
