The First Methodist church social circle meets Friday at 2 30 p m. The United Presbyterian women host May 20 at Miss McClurkin’s home with church transportation at 1 p m. A birthday surprise honors Lester Burton on his 20th birthday with about thirty neighbors. Gladys Ervin hosts Princeton High Senior Class party with 45 to 50 guests, flowers, class colors, and refreshments.
In Washington D C May 17 an agreement was reached to vote on confirmation of Louis D Brandeis as a Supreme Court member next Wednesday and the date was set for the confirmation vote in the Senate.
The Southern offers excursion rates to St Louis for Friday Saturday and Sunday priced at 2.50 for a round trip. The New York Giants with Eddie Roush are expected to attract many Princeton excursionists.
In Texas and New Mexico reports claim the bodies of Harris Woodson and Bosworth were recovered near Glenn Springs by a cattlemen posse. Nearby, troops clash reports indicate Langhorns forces pursue Glenn Springs raiders south of El Pino and Pershing’s army moves toward Colonia Dublan near Casas Grandes.
Deputy sheriffs comb Lake County for a fresh pool of 109 jurors amid rumors of a dramatic Davis testimony. State's Attorney Dady is said to hold secret evidence and witnesses regarding Orpet in the case involving Marion Lambert. Defendant’s father notes few painful letters among hundreds. several prospects show confidence in Orpet's innocence.
Circuit Court action moved from Vanderburg to Posey County after a Thursday motion by the defendant. The case involves Hildebrand as plaintiff versus the Evansville Brewing Co. and is set for trial.
Advisory board and county superintendent tentatively approve plans for a one story modern school building by architect J W Gaddis Vincennes. Located on high ground near Union church it will include a meeting room auditorium three classrooms and facilities for domestic science and manual training. Bids will be let soon with occupancy planned for the next term.
More than 1 200 delegates and visitors attend the Indianapolis opening. Committees named by Grand Secretary W H Leedy with John Wallick celebrated 44 years as journal clerk. Notables include Joseph Oliver former mayor of Toronto and Illinois leaders to speak.
The plaintiff Thomas Johnson by his next friend Benjamin Johnson sought a venue change in superior court. The case, involving a wagon strike injuring Johnson’s left lung and a $10,000 claim, was sent to Gibson county. Evansville Courier.
Under Secretary for Ireland Sir Mathew Nathan testified that Britain knew days before the rebellion that Irish leaders planned revolt and German aid, but disarmed them to avoid bloodshed. Sir Roger Casement faces trial for high treason in early June with Daniel Bailey possibly joining. Premier Asquith’s Ireland policy shifts. he heads to Cork asconciliation efforts continue.
Gibson county reports 8809 children of school age with a net loss of 18 from last year. Princeton and Patoka townships gain 35. Losses appear in most townships. White River shows the heaviest drop while Princeton and Patoka post gains of 35.
Thirty seven graduates of Princeton High School will receive diplomas at the annual commencement tomorrow evening in the high school auditorium. Diplomas will be conferred by Attorney Thomas W. Cullen, president of the city school board, followed by the listing of the 37 graduates including Joseph McClure Garwood Riggs Gertrude Zimmerman Ethel Kister Fern Riley Ruby Sweppy Sara Woods Jean Lathom and others.
The House naval affairs committee backed a one year navy program costing 180 million dollars and endorsed universal disarmament. The panel trimmed the five year plan but raised ship counts, urged arbitration to settle disputes, and announced Admiral Mayo will replace Admiral Fletcher as Atlantic fleet commander on June 19 after Fletcher’s service.
The examination for the county eighth grade pupils will be held at the county office in Princeton in the court house. If crowding occurs the test will move to the Lowell School. The date is Saturday June 8th and the examiner is the county superintendent.
Mrs Ella Sutherland wife of James Sutherland died at Woodmere Hospital Evansville at 4 20 am Thursday. The remains will be taken to her sister Mrs Gwinn Heniken 115 South Face Street this afternoon for funeral services Friday at Gibson Street Methodist Church at 10 30 am. Interment in Shilo Cemetery. Survived by husband father one brother and one sister and other relatives.
The State case against Ireland was heard by Juatius A D Green in the small aki room on Thursday. The fragment mentions the proceeding and a judge presiding in a local justice court.
Evansville businessmen and Owensville Cynthiana citizens plan a meeting in the near future to discuss securing an interurban from Evansville to New Harmony via Owensville and Cynthiana. The Evansville Public Utilities Company may back the project, or outside parties will be sought. The Princeton line could be fed by the new route, benefiting Princeton and Evensville alike.
