Logan county deputy sheriffs paid from coal operator funds
In Charlestown West Virginia on May 15 the Logan county mine guard system was explained to the jury in Bill Buz zard’s trial by "Two Gun" Chafin. He testified that more than 25 deputy sheriffs were paid from a fund supplied by coal operators, while only six or seven were county paid. He said salaries ranged from 160 to 350 dollars a month and deputies were bonded and appointed on his recommendation. He noted other workers like preachers and teachers were also financed from the fund.

Police Chief H S Fettinger received a $45 reward for recovering Sunday afternoon a Ford touring car owned by John Z. Smith, a federal student at Oakland City. The vehicle was stolen Saturday night in front of the Amazo theatre. an abandoned Ford was found on Stormont Avenue and later reclaimed by Smith and Hoosier Mutual Auto Insurance officials.

Police Spoil Spring Outing Of Two Couples
Gilbert Plott 19 Ed Veritz 15 and Maude Kirk 23 all of Vincennes plead guilty to immoral conduct arraigned before Mayor Niemeier. Plott and Veritz fined 50 dollars and costs 60 with 60 days on the state penal farm. Kirk fined 25 dollars and costs 35 with no sentence. Dolly Delong 15 also of Vincennes was arrested with them after a weekend in Lafayette park and at the fair grounds. Delong was returned to Vincennes without charges here. All admitted prior arrests. The Delong girl had recent history of drunken arrest and parole to Knox county charities. All warned not to return.
