Paris May 15 German peace delegates oppose trial of the former Kaiser while accepting overall war responsibility. Germany demands labor provisions be unchanged and signals opposition to Article 25 and 26 on league labor law. Big Four discuss Austrian terms with a May 23 presentation planned for the Austro-Hungarian treaty.
Edith Cavell British nurse murdered by the Germans was honored in London and Norwich with military rites. Her casket, draped in the Union Jack, was carried to Westminster Abbey after services, and the crowd paid final respects as the hymn Abide With Me was sung.

Linton faces loss of telephone service as the local exchange was abandoned after operators walked out at the end of a two week armistice. Central Union Telephone Co declared withdrawal to avoid recognizing the union, though wage and working condition demands were met. The union recognition triggered a miners strike and martial law after strike breakers were brought in.
Halifax reports say NC alighted on the water during a Halifax to Newfoundland flight, made repairs, and resumed its voyage. Aviation experts hail the maneuver as proof navy planes can descend, repair, and continue travel. The seaplane landed about 30 miles from Halifax and cleared the waters at 12 47.

Mr and Mrs A E Emiminger and Miss Stuth Starbuck Indianapolis guests of Major and Mrs Robert C Baltzell. Miss Hazel Salomon, from Logansport and Detroit, returned home Wednesday.
Governor Goodrich issued a proclamation declaring that laws passed by the recent legislature without emergency clauses take effect. The proclamation follows receipt of notices from Fulton County and completes acknowledgement from 92 counties, though most laws had emergency clauses and are unaffected.
The Wabash river crest reached 16.1 feet this morning with a slight drop of 0.1 foot from yesterday. Some lowland areas are flooded but overall damage remains minimal as reported by the Mt. Carmel Republican Register.
Members of the women's organization gathered at the city building this afternoon to perfect plans for a cleanup drive. Officials announced that the fall scope of the plans will be revealed on Friday.

Enlistments offered for 1 or 3 years.
