A vintage ad promotes Good Music with a New Edison in homes. It touts real music as timeless and dependable and highlights G. W. Guthrie Music House at S. Side Square as the Edison Shop location.
The Woman's Tome Missionary Society of the First Methodist Church will gather Tuesday afternoon with Mrs Read Witherspoon. Members are asked to attend and bring mite-box offerings. The Royal Woman's Class of Broadway Christian Church will meet with Mrs Ralph Crimbaugh at her West Water Street home, assisted by Mrs Wiseman and Mrs Graetz.
The Rev. M. P. Rimmer, former pastor of the Church of God, will preach Friday and Saturday evenings at 7 30 oclock. The Giareh extends a cordial invitation to all friends. The Church of God chapel stands at Water and dibsen streets.
May records show highest temperature around V and lowest near 60. The same date last year peaked at 46 with a low of 45. Conditions were clear today with no precipitation and partly cloudy outlook noted.
H. J. Draheim national aide camp reorganized the O. M. Tichenor Camp No. 51 United Spanish War Veterans Saturday evening at the city building. The camp elected officers including Post Commander George Seller Commander William Wilson Senior Vice Commander Foreman Knowles Junior Vice Commander Adolph Fella and others. Surgeons and Trumpeters will be elected later. Commander Wilson named J. F. Erwin and J. W. DePriest as adjutant and quartermaster respectively. First stated meeting set for Wednesday at 7 30 p m in City Building.
Miss Ruth Parrett, pupil of St Josephs Music class, will be awarded a diploma for completing the violin course at a recital in St Josephs park auditorium next Thursday night May 14. Parrett, daughter of Mr and Mrs C K Parrett of Patoka, also studies piano. Her sister Miss Mae Parrett will accompany on piano, and Patoka resident Mrs Irene Witch will sing. A reading by B Stenfte nage accompanies the program featuring Rachmaninoff and violin classics.
The American Legion will meet at city hall tonight at 7:80 o'clock for the second Monday gathering. The post plans regular meetings on the second and fourth Mondays and will discuss questions requiring full member participation. Attendance is urged for all members.
Life sentence handed to Charles N Harvey in Los Angeles for the murder of Nina Lee Delaney one of his twenty six wives. The report also notes Miss Gertrude Zimmerman heads to Chicago to visit Miss Opal Light and mentions local illness and travel items including James Cunningham a scarlet fever case and Doris Davis returning to Lima Ohio after visiting Owensville.
The bulletin reports President Carranza has been captured near the city and surrendered unharmed as General Obregon's troops entered toward the capital. Reports place the government fleeing toward Vera Cruz while U S forces monitor developments off Mexico. The state department weighs a new Mexican policy amid a 6,000 to 7,000 American presence in Mexico.
Gene Williams a prominent Muncie attorney was arrested by federal officers on a United States warrant alleging impersonation of a federal officer. He is jailed without bond and to be arraigned in Indianapolis later today. Williams previously faced bribery convictions as deputy prosecutor, later reversed by the supreme court.
The socialist national convention resumes in New York and plans to nominate Eugene V. Debs for president. Rumors persist that Debs may be released soon from Atlanta federal penitentiary.
At the meeting of the Women's Federated Clubs held at New Harmony on Saturday Princeton was chosen as the site for the 1920 gathering.
The Gibson County Health Association formed at First Presbyterian church outlines a countywide education program on venereal disease. It calls for lectures in schools churches factories and clubs, with literature available and speakers supplied by state and federal health offices. It urges cooperation with media preachers librarians and moving picture venues to reach broad audiences. The Education Committee should work with schools, list capable local speakers, and coordinate with outside experts if needed. The Law and Enforcement Committee will aid in enforcing health laws and enacting ordinances as needed, adapting to local administration. Recreation and Welfare committees emphasize healthful amusements and support for vulnerable individuals, including free clinics guiding women toward better choices, and a comprehensive community survey to improve conditions.
Patoka, Indiana beat Decker 11 to 1 with Clarence Kolb pitching well and strong support from teammates. The game featured few hits by Decker and no admission charged, with plans for future Riverside Park improvements and continued community baseball at Patoka.
United Press reports predicted Senator Lodge would be chosen as temporary chairman of the national Republican convention by the committee on arrangements without dispute. Wilson's plea to make the League of Nations a campaign issue is seen as solidifying Lodge's support amid a meeting with women attendees and medical profession backing.
