Pay checks arrived this afternoon and were being distributed by Agent Young. Those wishing to take the First Aid to the Injured course will meet at the Lowell School Building on Friday evening at seven thirty.
Princeton expects record turnout for tomorrow's Patriotic Field Day at the Fair Ground. Stores close 1 to 4 30 pm as children parade from Water and Main at 11 am. Supt Stott urges every child to take part, with displays from local schools and shops and a variety of folk games and drills planned.
A large group from the local Rebekahs lodge attended the county session held in Owensville. A well arranged program marked the day, reflecting an organized event and community involvement.
Streets from Water to State, State to Hart, Hart to Spruce, Spruce to west of Hart will be closed for a parade of school children. All vehicles must remain off these streets to keep children safe. appreciation noted for past cooperation by the public, schools, and parents.
Indiana voters including women face a new registration law. The county registration board will sit for 60 days starting June 13, excluding Sundays and holidays, to register all eligible voters for the constitutional convention election. Absentee by mail rules apply for those absent on election day.
A US state department message reports 127 Americans held by Germany as of May 10, despite prior belief that last prisoners were freed. The American Legion women in Berne organize to aid prisoners while Argentina pushes for a Americas Congress dubbed a peace conference. In Europe a British assault north of St Quentin fails as German reinforcements push back the attackers.
Berlin reports indicate Germany sees no need for a direct assault on the United States while insisting sub marines will be used. Foreign Office and socialist leader Scheidemann defend torpedoing ships within the danger zone, arguing all nations were warned. Scheidemann blasts President Wilson over his peace stance, claiming continued effort could have ended the war.
Indiana public service commissioners will visit multiple cities next Thursday and Friday to hold public hearings on the coal situation. W. J. Woods will attend in Brazil Terre Haute Vincennes and Evansville to meet business leaders and residents for full discussion, followed by a large meeting in Indianapolis.
Five hundred flags wave on the Paris front as 500 American ambulances display the stars and stripes. The drivers are 500 young Americans from nearly every state.
Conference committees agree to remove the Roosevelt amendment from the military bill and report back to both houses. The age for conscription is raised to 21 to 30 with all men up to 31 subject to service. Prohibition applies only to liquor sales to uniformed personnel. The administration opposes restoring the Roosevelt clause. a vote is expected after House action.
Petrograd May 10. A government poster says free Russia faces danger from quarrels between the provisional government and soldiers and workers committees. It warns internal disorder and civil war could threaten the country and urges cooperation with five creative forces not yet active in state affairs.
Copenhagen May 10 German circles report plans to name Count von Bernstorff as ambassador to Sweden amid rising pro ally sentiment in Sweden following America's entry The Swedish trend is strongest among officials and indicates Berlin's wish to ease tensions with America by using Bernstorff in pursuing reconciliation with Washington
