City council enacted a third vehicle tax measure in a long session with Mayor Niemeier. The ordinance sets a prorated license fee through December and yearly renewal afterward, with small fee shifts for haulers. It aims to fix past court issues while excluding occasional producers. The vote was unanimous under suspended rules.
Prospect of reopening plans for a mine shaft near Wall's Hill emerged after a signed agreement between Deep Vein Coal Co. and the city awaiting mayoral ratification. A new local coal company may take over Deep Vein holdings in exchange for stock while Hall Hill shaft aims to tap the state’s best coal field west of Hall street. Dispatches from Tripoli report about fierce fighting as Italian troops move to occupy an oasis in the African desert. Two hundred natives are claimed killed and nineteen Italian soldiers died in the clashes as Italians drove the natives back and established their position.

New York May 8 Not every American girl who marries a titled foreigner finds happiness. Frances Stephens of New York wed Prince Dimitri Galitzine of Russia, but the couple faced loss and exile as Russia collapsed. Princess Galitzine returned to New York while her family’s fortune dwindled.
Prince ton reads of a soon planned tourist camp with a comfort station near Spruce street in Lafayette Park. The city council formed a committee led by Mayor Niemeier to price brick and materials and begin erection if feasible. Groundwork set last year includes water piping and park grounds improvements for auto tourists.

City council received bids Monday for oiling streets this summer. Only bid came from George Soller at one and a half cents per gallon. Contract awarded. city clerk to notify Indian Refining Co. to begin shipments. Oil to be supplied from Lawrenceville, YL.
The county commissioners awarded road contracts for three county unit roads and Princeton Main street resurfacing. Bids for Victor Buesing road went to Coulson & Renininger at 16 490, Clark Road to N P Wirth at 1 900, Charles Mason road to Fred Antel at 9 595, and Main Street Princeton resurfacing to Premier Construction Co. at 27 185. The Buesing bridge contract went to Vincennes Bridge Co. at 1 940.
Sullivan Indiana hosts a state first aid meet with talks by prominent officials including John L. Lewis and Secretary Davis. More than thirty teams compete, a parade led by the Miners Band, vaudeville acts, a banquet, awards, prizes, and a 34 round exhibition boxing card are planned for the event.

Scott Rus sian Hays youngest son of Rutherford B Hayes died at his Ossining New York home. He was vice president of the New York Air Brake Company and survived by his wife three brothers and a sister. Born February 8 1871 in Columbus Ohio his early education was by White House tutors during his father's presidency.
May 8 dispatch reports foreign legation ultimatum to China demanding release of foreign hostages held by bandits in southwest Shandong. China orders Shantung governor to concede and pay ransom if needed. Fifteen hostages remain, including Americans, amid negotiations led by Roy Anderson. Clips note women released but danger persists. Joseph Allen Mills, a Northwestern University former class leader, said he was kicked out of the university and a fraternity after a hazing probe into Leighton Mount’s alleged death. He was en route to Chicago to tell his version, while Akron officials kept him in custody with two assistant district attorneys.
Chicago May 8 The love letters of Leighton Mount Northwestern University freshman slain after hazing are presented to the grand jury to refute a self destruction theory. Mount’s nurse letter shows a wish to die and attorneys say it disproves suicide claims, labeling the notes as a kid’s love letters.
The C E L railroad is constructing a new passing track with capacity for 80 cars to better handle trains in the area. The switch sits near the old Princeton mine shaft and begins a short distance north of the signal tower, extending north past the Mt Carmel road crossing.
Indianapolis forecast urges covering tender plants tonight as frost threatens crops under clear skies. Weather caster J. H. Arlington warns of possible damage to fruit and plants that have been set out. Storms and a cold wave sweep the Midwest bringing heavy snow in Wisconsin and flurries reaching Springfield Illinois.
In St Joseph Michigan on May 8 witnesses told investigators King Benjamin Purnell offered $1000 to former House of David members who knew of his immorality. Mrs Isabel Pritchard testified Purnell offered money to withdraw her family from the cult. Miss Hilda Pritchard testified she was a victim of Purnell rites described as purification ceremonies. Virgins and former virgins testified as the judge continued hearings with recall of Hazel Wuerth who said she underwent purification.
Berlin reports Chancellor Cuno returns from vacation to study France’s reply to Germany’s 30 billion marks offer. Cabinet chiefs to confer. no talks on a settlement until Britain’s note arrives. Paris dispatch notes France and Belgium will extend seizures in the Ruhr if no new offer emerges.
