Editor Kilgallen jailed for contempt in Indianapolis
James L. Kilgallen managing editor of the Indiana Daily Times received a 20 day jail term and a $200 fine after contempt of court charges. The case may be appealed to the state supreme court. The charges stem from two Times articles on the Marion county grand jury investigation of the county jail.

New Salvation Army Hall Planned After Collapse

Ark underway for another Soviet deportation ship
Washington May 8. The government plans a second Soviet ark loaded with radical aliens to depart for Russia soon. About 500 aliens await deportation, mostly Russians, with plans to send a large ship to Odessa or another Black Sea point. An army transport may be used due to transportation difficulties.

Little Cripple Wants to Stay in Princeton
Eleven year old Hugh Mererole was crushed by a train at Albion Illinois and lost his left leg. He was treated at the Methodist Hospital where his thigh was amputated. A hospital visitor urged education for a living beyond manual work and Hugh decided to pursue schooling and make Princeton his home when he leaves the hospital. The destitute family includes a widow mother and four children. Hugh had been gathering coal from a railroad yard when the train struck, destroying any chance of gentle retirement.
