In El Paso on May 8 1916 generals Scott and Obregon met to sign a joint agreement. Obregon presented Carranza's approval and a final conference was arranged for that afternoon. Unofficial sources said the plan would not split over the Glenn Springs outrage as American troops pursued the raiders.
About 100 signers have joined the application for a Prince County National Guard unit. Major Gi Miller of Mount Vernon is noted as an official, with local supporters gathered this evening.
American troops moved to pursue Mexican bandits after a five hour battle near Glen Springs in the Big Bend region. Three American soldiers and a 10 year old boy were killed and two American citizens captured. General Funston ordered a battalion to detrain and sweep toward the border as cattlemen rally for vengeance.
In a Saturday evening session in Squire Green's court miners Luther Hedrick and Tilden Hughes clashed after Hedrick filed an affidavit for provoke. Hughes allegedly struck Hedrick with a chair causing a three inch forehead gash. James M. Sullivan former U S minister to Santo Domingo is released after eight days in custody in Ireland. He sent a letter to the American embassy stating he was arrested on suspicion of rebellion and later freed.
The trial of Mr. Barrett proprietor of the Star theater and Mr. Lightner of the Yale theater on a charge of following their usual vacation on Sunday will come up for hearing in Squire Green's court Tuesday morn ing. Prosecutor Lanphar will appear for the State and Morton Embree for the defendants. The trial will be before a jury. George Funk and John Skeavington spent the week out in Evansville with Philip Brady on Riverside Avenue. They attended the track meet at Bosse Field Saturday.
French troops recaptured a large stretch of ground along the Meuse yesterday signaling a major Verdun assault. A counterattack drove German forces from the trenches they had occupied in the northwestern front.
Archer Post G A R plans a large turnout for the Evansville state encampment. Members and nonmembers are urged to travel with the post at 8 41, special 86 cent round trip rate, parade set for 2 PM as Evansville hosts the G A R gathering and centennial events attracting thousands.
The Circuit Court spent most of Monday on Mauck and Blythe suit against the C I S railroad with Judge Vandeveer instructing the jury before it retired to deliberate. Cunard officials deny details as no wireless contact has come from the vessel since May 2, while Venezia sightings suggest raiders target Atlantic shipping.
Members of Tichenor camp United Spanish War veterans are urged to attend a 7:30 p.m. meeting in the Eagles home smoking room North Hart Street. The session will include signing the camp roster and muster of new members. Plans are to coordinate attendance at the Evansville encampment and most comrades are likely to travel Wednesday.
