The American Legion launched a nationwide telegram drive to all posts urging action on the soldier bonus bill now before the ways and means committee. National commander Franklin D Olier said telegrams were sent demanding passage amid Republican opposition.
A vintage ad touts the New Edison as dependable home music, claiming real music never grows dull and invites readers to consider purchasing the instrument from G. W. Guturie Music House at The Edison Shop in Side Square.
Mrs Rod M Crambaugh and son Thomas visited Mr and Mrs W F Daniels in Mount Carmel. Mrs E F Powell of Wuntingineg visited her mother Mrs Maggie Cato in south Race street. Arthur Green of Francisco was here on business. Mr and Mrs Thomas Masters returned to Grayville after a week with Mr and Mrs Wilson Traylor. Miss Hazel Martin and Verna Stevens of Fort Branch shopped here. Mr and Mrs Warner Booker and children Beatrice and Walter returned to St Louis after visiting their parents. Mr and Mrs Joh Zengler visited the Bookers in east Ohio street. Mrs Ralph Gorham and son Mervil visited her mother Mrs J W Mardding in Mount Vernon Us. Sidney Fortes returned to St Louis after a few days here with Mr and Mrs Awen Forbes. Mrs Ro M Viarrett and Mrs W C Benson of Owensville visited. Miss Exsider Barretto, a student in Oakland City, en route to Owensville to visit her parents and attend a party at Mount Vernon Ind. Miss Marie Carrel returned to Mount Carmel after visiting Mrs Elzena Jawas.
Dr Joseph Maurer a Marion Indiana eye ear and throat specialist married Miss Frances Householder in Los Angeles March 24. A deputy sheriff served a summons in a breach of promise suit demanding 538500 damages from Maurer. Plaintiff Zelpha Bogue once Marion schoolgirl started a Los Angeles millinery shop and alleges the affair.
The message urges all to wear a small silk flag on Mother's Day and attend sermons in praise of motherhood. It notes possible flower shortages and encourages honoring mothers by honoring the flag and church services.
Principal Dr. W. Cockrum announced that next Thursday and Friday the high school manual training domestic science and art departments will exhibit their work in the school building with public invitation. Friday evening includes a public entertainment with recitations and musical selections by school organizations. Visitors are welcome on both days and the student work promises to be a treat for interested observers.
In Indianapolis on May 7 Judge A B Anderson overruled Hughes plea in abatement in the government’s Lever act case against 175 coal men. The ruling allows pretrial instructions to stand and affects the grand jury’s conduct with Indiana operators and miners in the case. Nine Pennsylvania defendants joined Indiana defendants in the proceeding as government attorneys prosecuted the Lever act indictments.
Socialists meet in New York to nominate Eugene V. Debs for president while he serves a 20 year sentence in Atlanta. Vice presidential candidate Kate Richard O’Hare also imprisoned in Leavenworth faces Espionage Act charges. Other contenders include Scott Nearing James O’Neal and Seymour Stedman as the convention runs for a week.
Washington dispatch notes progressives rally for a different chair as Henry Cabot Lodge looms as keynote. Borah Johnson and allies push for a progressive chair but Penrose gains control, predicting Penrose will also pick speakers and the presidential candidate.
In Indiana, complete returns on May 7 place Leonard Wood with 85,776 votes, Hiram Johnson 79,829, Frank Lowden 31,118, and Warren Harding 20,818. Wood leads by 5,947 with approx 217,600 Republican total. McCullough leads Democratic governorship results with 462,893, while Warren McCray leads Republican governorship with a 10,890 plurality. In Marion county Harding leads in governorship race with 1,528 to 5,610 for Johnson and 3,358 for Lowden. California returns show Johnson with 363,734 to Hoover 244,461.
The sole Friday morning case was Noble Plumbing Co versus Coupton a mechanics lien dispute. Adams versus Tooley lingered two days before a hung jury and judge Viandereer discharged the jury. Peed injunction case granted Tuesday set for further hearing Saturday morning.
Derby races at Louisville set for Saturday with a large contingency of Princeton tart fans planning to attend.

Milwaukee May 7 A mother's bid to save her life at the cost of her child's life was upheld as self defense by surgeons who left Marquette University over the operation. Thor argues a mother has right to defend herself against threat to life during childbirth. Father Noonan says ethics, not religion, underlie the surgeons' stance.

Nine masked bandits robbed the Drovers' National Bank in East St. Louis ML. One bandit was killed another captured after a pistol duel. About $19,000 in cash was recovered from an abandoned car.

Frank Pride of 1130 Seminary Street learns of his brother Lafayette Pride’s death at his Evansville home on Wednesday evening after a period of critical illness. Born near Oakland City, he lived there until moving to Evansville three years ago. Survived by a widow two children Omer Pride and Mrs Jesse Daton of Oakland City, three brothers Albert Frank and Lewis of nearby towns, and two sisters Mrs Newton Abbott and Mrs Delia Pride. Funeral at the Evansville residence Saturday.
