The Riggs Department Store files a public refutation asserting the exclusive sale claim for the Frolaset Dorset by a rival store is false. Riggs states it introduced the corset to Princeton women over two years ago and has sold it steadily, promising ongoing sales in new models regardless of competitors' assertions.
The U S state department received its first official notice of the torpedoing of the American tanker Gulflight by a German submarine off the Scilly Islands. The Cushing bombardment by a German aviator near the Dutch coast also prompts a formal inquiry. Ambassador Gerard in Berlin was asked to investigate both incidents and Secretary Bryan maintained a cautious stance.
