Paris report says Mme. Sarah Ternhardt, famed as the world’s greatest actress, is sinking at her Paris residence. Relatives are at her bedside as delirium returns her to onstage glory, reciting roles like Camille and L Aigion from memory while her body declines.
Washington reports allegations of a conspiracy to raise sugar prices prompting a preliminary inquiry by federal officials. Acting Attorney General Seymour and Secretary Hoover plan joint action, with Justice and Commerce departments to investigate if warranted. Basil Manly provided substantiating information and urged swift injunctions.
Word has been received of the death of James M. Matheny, son-in-law of Mr and Mrs Joseph P Yoeham, at his home 818 North Walnut Street in Indianapolis. Death was due to anemia after a year of ill health and a recent bout with influenza. Funeral set for Monday at 2 PM at the residence. Surviving are his widow, formerly Amy Yochaim of Princeton, and Mr and Mrs J P Yochum of this city are in Indianapolis.
Chicago reports two youths confessed to plotting the fireman murder to gain access to his wife and sister in law. Mrs Annabelle McGinnis and Miss Cyna Pioch faced murder accusations while the two boys Nee and Slade were charged as accessories.
In Grand Rapids on March 24 Queen Mary Purnell wife of Benjamin Purnell of the House of Davia will testify to refute witnesses who said she threatened colony members. Esther Hansel testified of threats and knife remarks amid alleged poison plots. Plaintiff's lawyer Nelson doubts a staged Benjamin to test witnesses.
Circuit Court handed down a decision in the Wolfe versus Roskind case arising from the closing of the Roskind stores. The finding awards H. B. Wolfe 1089 dollars and Mrs Roskind on cross complaint 2361.15 dollars with a receiver ordered to sell merchandise on April 5 to settle claims. Arguments continued Saturday on a petition for a permanent injunction against enforcing the city vehicle license ordinance.
Three couples wed in the circuit clerk’s office Saturday morning. The first union was officiated by Rev. J. E. Murr, with Jankine of Francisco and Miley as the couple. The other two marriages were performed by Justice of the Peace Stunkle in Fort Branch and Peters burg.
Omaha pilot Jack Knight, dubbed Ace of the Air Mail Pilots, promotes a continental lighted air route from New York to San Francisco for night mail service. He says 160 hours motor life and dependable Liberty engines make the scheme feasible, with a Great White Way route from Chicago to Cheyenne and beyond.
W. El Criswell returned from Saint Louis where he attended the Indiana and Illinois branch meeting of the Associated Clothiers and was elected president of the association. The group gathered at the Jefferson hotel to form a Missouri branch and to bulk orders for lower prices and higher quality foods for retailers. Twenty five retail stores across Indiana Illinois and Missouri participated.
The forecast calls for fair conditions tonight and Sunday with colder air in the extreme northeast tonight and temperatures gradually warming on Sunday. Friday’s high near 48 and low around 34 with clear skies. A year ago the high reached 71 and the low 40 with clear conditions. Sunset Saturday is 6 05 and sunrise Sunday 5 49.
Mike Rothschild a five or six year old dog received a new collar from owner Louis Rothschild who sells collars. Police found Mike roaming near Kollartess and locked him up. Charles G. Taylor Chamber of Commerce secretary visited and commented on Mike's embarrassment.
A collision last night at the Clark and Prince streets corner damaged both cars. One vehicle was driven by Miss Kathleen Allen and the other by another motorist. The report notes no serious injuries.
The home guards and mothers' jewels of the First Methodist church will meet Sunday afternoon at 2 30 o clock in the church.
The Westminster Guild of the First Presbyterian church will meet Tuesday evening with Mrs. Don Stormont. Mrs. Vesper Gamble and Mrs. Isabel Mauck will be the assistant hostesses.
Humphrey B. Halfacre of Danville has been approved for a $13 monthly pension through the Burton agency.
In Indianapolis on March 24 testimony in a boguse conspiracy case cited an atmosphere of deep hostility in Gary toward federal prohibition agents. Gary Post-Tribune editor Mron Harris admitted under cross examination that agents were resented by city officials and police. The defense challenged Akman’s alleged bribery and framing claims as Angela Harris denied urging Akman to sign statements accusing federal agents.
Washington report says Germany refuses surrender in the Ruhr occupation and will continue the standoff with France. The Cuno government’s position to settle hinges on French troop withdrawals, signaling prolonged tensions without imminent negotiations.
The U S air service announced a DH4 B flight from Nogales Arizona to Fort Bliss Texas achieving 735 miles in 18 minutes at an average 250 miles per hour. Major Leo Heffernan piloted with Sergeant Jensen as observer.
Paris music hall managers met to discuss when nude indecency occurs. They agreed that nudes posed immobile and not speaking or singing are considered aesthetic, while movements or talking would provoke gossip and require regulation.

Will Hallock reports the death of the daughter of Mr and Mrs Allen Tomlinson at their Whittier California home. Pneumonia caused death. She was fourteen. Mrs Tomlinson, formerly Miss Kate Jenkins, is the daughter of the Rev J E Jenkins formerly of this city.
George J. Gould of New York is greatly improved at Cap Martin where he is ill. Recovery is expected but requires long rest. A London specialist who treated him has returned to England.
In San Juan on March 24 Salvador Masthe tendered his resignation as attorney general of Porto Rico to President Harding. Reports here indicate Herbert P. Coats, former New York State Senator, will succeed him.
Berlin reports that leading members of an alleged revolutionary conspiracy were ordered detained indefinitely, with lesser participants released. Bavaria’s Premier von Knilling backed unified resistance to French demands and said no central government would capitulate, stressing German unity and the Ruhr evacuation as prerequisites to talks.
In Sioux City Iowa flood waters backed up from a Missouri River ice jam covering lowlands. Residents abandoned homes overnight as Floyd River also rose. A further foot rise could submerge about forty blocks. Temperature spike threatens farms and villages downstream. Officials warned 50 miles of communities as the dam endangered areas.
Willard Goodman 38 of Lawrenceville died after his car was struck by an interurban while traveling from Indianapolis to Lawrenceville for A. I. Maxwell Co. His vehicle followed the lead car across the track. Goodman died at Methodist Hospital Indianapolis. His wife left Vincennes for his bedside. He was brother of Nile Goodman of Hazleton.
A Friday correction clarifies that the south Main street garage is being erected by Roy Hill rather than Bear & Davia. Hill owns the new building and will use it for a large garage business.
