News from The Hague reports increasing isolation for former Emperor William. March 26 dispatch notes calls for removal to distant exile. AMERONGEN dated March 20 confirms a tight Dutch guard around him with police tailing him near Bentinck Castle garden.
Government officials expect indicted Indiana coal operators to surrender as captuses ready, following Carl J. Fletcher’s surrender. Four more Indiana coal men were arrested on conspiracy to limit production under the Lever Act. E. B. Logsdon and W H Tob in of Indianapolis, Dennis Neal of Indiana Creek mines, and William Zeller of Indianapolis named.
R. E. Curtner, a well known Hazleton resident, has received the appointment as superintendent of maintenance of state highways for the Vincennes subdivision. The Vincennes sub district includes Knox Green and part of Davies counties.
Reports from Kansas note dust storms damaging winter wheat. Minnesota and Wyoming endure winter blizzards with the storm spreading eastward. Three deaths attributed to the storms have been reported.
The battleship Maryland was launched at Newport News shipyard with Secretary of the Navy Daniels and other dignitaries in attendance.
A special Southern railroad train carrying President Fairfax Harrison and other high officials arrived Friday afternoon for an inspection of the St Louis Louisville division. The party, traveling from St Louis, stopped at the Southern shops in Louisville with Superintendent Sheridan in the party. The train drew attention as the first major locomotive over the line since privatization after government control.
The high school students of the Catholic parochial school performed the play Fabiola at St Joseph auditorium on Friday night. The largely attended performance was a remarkable success in every respect.
United States Senator Truman H. Newberry was sentenced to two years in federal prison and fined 10000 dollars after a guilty verdict on election fraud. Judge Clarence Sessions denied motions for a stay and a new trial, granting a 90 day stay pending appeal. Prison to be served at Fort Worth in Kansas.
A small calibre bullet, likely from a rifle, fired by a careless boy, crashed through a window at Frank Berger’s home 222 East Broadway St, narrowly missing Mrs Berger. The shot came from a distance and nearly exhausted its power before striking the window.
Arrangements for a triangular track meet at Owensville involving Mt. Vernon Princeton and Owensville high schools April 24. About fifteen to twenty candidates will begin training later this month under coach J F Hammond.
Mrs May McKidy Leiger died March 20 at her home near Francisco at age 35 from influenza. She left a husband and two daughters, with a New York brother and a California father named J N McKidy. Mrs Mattie Kirk died Tuesday night at 8 after several weeks of illness aged 69 years 7 months 3 days. She was a Regular Baptist and funeral services were held in Oakland City with interment in Montgomery cemetery. Surviving are two sons Will and Homer Kirk of Vincennes, a daughter Mrs Robert Engler of Oatsville, and a granddaughter Miss Hazel Kirk living with the deceased.
Truman H. Newberry United States senator from Michigan was found guilty by a district court jury of conspiring to spend more than the limit in the 1918 campaign. Sixteen associates were found guilty. eighty five defendants were listed with some acquittals. Sentencing set for 2:00 PM. vast list of campaign workers named.
London dispatch reports the Berlin general strike has ended and the Soviet Republic was proclaimed. The move follows the strike's conclusion as authorities and workers respond to the turning point in the German capital.
A dispatch reports a soviet republic proclaimed at Sessen, home of Krupp steel, with a 15,000 strong soviet army taking five cities. Herbert's troops reportedly have withdrawn to British-occupied territory.
A small ceremony Thursday at 612 State Street united Miss Ena Mahan and Henry Sollman in marriage. Rev. Morris Watson officiated. The couple, both well known in the city, noted the groom’s recent resignation from White Lumber Company where he was a cabinet maker.
Violence escalates across Germany with armed workers seizing Essen after two days of combat. Reports say radicals control much of the Ruhr area, with Berlin cut off from telephone lines. Washington March 20 The treaty fate lies with President Wilson after the Senate rejected ratification by 49 to 35 and sent the pact back. Wilson faced options to seek a referendum, return it to the Senate, or begin peace talks with Germany as the campaign rages over the covenant. Senate votes and statements from Democrats and Republicans frame a long fight ahead.
Lord Mayor Thomas McCurtain was shot dead at his Blackpool home in Cork at 1 a.m. by masked assailants who smeared their hands and faces with black. The attackers fired on him as they called him to the door and escaped.
Indianapolis March 30 William L. Elder acting for Vice President Marshall withdrew the petition to place Marshall's name on the Democratic presidential primary ballot. The move leaves Democrats without a candidate in the primary and ensures uninstructed delegates at the convention from Indiana.

Maj. R. W. Schroeder of Chicago holder of the world altitude record plans a ten hour San Francisco to New York flight this summer at 30,000 feet. He says steady winds at that height will push his speed to about 350 to 400 miles per hour after reaching 36,130 feet in February.
