Miss Anna E. Yorckel of Beatrice becomes Nebraska’s first woman to seek an executive state post. She filed today as a Democratic candidate for Secretary of State, aiming for the April 20 election.
The Francisco Mine owned by Royal Coal was unsealed Monday after weeks sealed due to a fire sparked by an explosion that killed the shot firer. 150 men are employed. officials expect readiness for operation by week’s start. The mine had burned previously, was resealed, and reopened with the fire now extinguished.
The conspiracy trial of United States Senator Truman H. Newberry and 84 campaign aides went to the jury in Grand Rapids. Judge C W Sessions charged the jurors for two hours and urged them to begin deliberations Friday morning. Defense objections followed the charge and a campaign manager, Paul H King, remained in critical condition after collapsing on the witness stand.
The Rev. D. C. Blunt of Martinsville Indiana has accepted the pastorate at the First Baptist church. His acceptance came Thursday afternoon as the church board approved. He preached a trial sermon last Sunday and will return to preach again before moving his family to this city to occupy the former pastor’s home on West Water Street. Princeton welcomes the new residents.

Von Kapp fled to East Prussia.
Washington March 19 A resolution would formally return the treaty to President Wilson with notice that the senate has been unable to ratify it. Lodge said Republicans and at least four Democrats would back the measure which requires a simple majority to adopt. The move delays final action and shifts pressure to the President as the peace treaty vote looms.
