A brief appeal urges readers to give books to the Soldiers and Sailors this week. The note likens proper attire to a well fitting corset, stressing that comfort and fit reflect in appearance and confidence.
J L Miller 40 of Magnet Perry County and Seth Keith 36 of Washington Ind were arrested by Sheriff Philips and Deputy Fettinger on espionage act violations. Police say they distributed The Finished Mystery, a posthumous Pastor Russell work, seizing about 75 copies at their rooms and uncovering letters indicating knowledge of their disobedience to DOJ orders. They await DOJ guidance and possible confiscation of all copies.
The measure, expected to be signed by President Wilson, establishes five time zones and moves clocks forward one hour at 2 AM on the last Sunday in March, then back again in October. It mandates US standard time for all federal actions and carrier operations within zones.
Before the war Germany was four-fifths self supporting while England France and Italy depended on external supply. Now with supply sources restricted Germany can raise most of her own food and is naturally better off than the Allies who must rely almost entirely on the United States.

Washington March 18 The United States faces further wheat curtailment as global shortages bite. Reserve wheat in mills is down 25 percent from last year and 60 percent from 1916 while US shipments to the allies run about half the prewar level. Officials seek relief through increased meat shipments to England and a March rise in shipments versus February.
A train of 16 coaches brought Uncle Sam’s aviation corps soldiers into the Southern district near the shops Sunday morning. After unloading they spread through the south part of the city and nearby countryside to exercise, shop, and refresh, with many men marching into town to stock up on candy, cigars, and refreshments.
Princeton plans to bid for the 1919 state meeting of the United Mine Workers. Mayor Noble will travel to Terre Haute where the convention is in session to present Princeton’s case, backed by District Board member Will Raney and local delegates. About 250 delegates attend the session, which lasts two weeks.
Fred Stuerzenberger of Mt Carmel left Monday for Scott Field Belleville NL to enlist in the aviation department of the U S military service. He is well known locally and his friends extend best wishes for success.
Mr and Mrs Herschel Smith and son McGowan spent Sunday in Cynthiana as guests of Artie Haines and other relatives.
The local conscription board notifies a county quota of 25 men for the March 29 draft call. Men will not be drawn until the district appeal board rules on pending claims.
The United Presbyterian Church hosts evangelistic services all this week at 7 30 P M. The Rev G L Brown from Indianapolis will lead the gatherings. All are cordially invited.
The L A H Girls of the Broadway Christian Church will meet Tuesday night at the home of Mrs. Mel Ritchie on West Broadway. All members are urged to attend.
